Bunker Hill Dragstrip to Host IHRA Ironman Classic in One Week

Friday, 09 June 2023

BUNKER HILL, Ind. — An exciting opportunity awaits racers in Indiana and surrounding states as historic Bunker Hill Dragstrip hosts the IHRA Ironman Classic on Saturday, June 17.

Racers in five different classes — Top (Box), Mod (No Box), Motorcycles, Sportsman and Junior Dragster — will compete for the prestigious IHRA Ironman trophies. Located a little over an hour north of Indianapolis, Bunker Hill is one of the country’s most storied drag strips, first opened in 1956, making it the oldest dragway in the Hoosier State.

Entry fees are $55 for Top and Mod with a $1,000-to-win race. It’s $50 for the bikes with $1,000 to win, $35 entry for Sportsman and $25 entry for Junior Dragsters. Adding to the value, it’s also an IHRA Summit SuperSeries points race.

The IHRA Ironman Classic program is offered to all IHRA member tracks. Prior to this program, a Sportsman racer could only win an Ironman if they traveled to an IHRA Summit Team Finals, Sportsman Spectacular or World Finals. This program gives local tracks a chance to create extra excitement in their bracket program and offer competitors a chance to win the prestigious Ironman.

This event is another example of track owner and veteran Top Fuel racer Terry McMillen and his wife, Cori, keeping their promise to support grassroots, Sportsman racing. Gates open at 11 a.m. with time trials to begin at 1 p.m.

Click here to access the track’s Facebook page and you see news about this and other great events coming up at the historic facility.
