Wednesday, 24 September 2014

As the Summit SuperSeries championship dragster enters the final stages of its build, we take a closer look at three major contributors to this year’s amazing prize. Weld Wheels, House of Payne Performance and White Safety all provided important parts to this year’s dragster build and all three were pivotal in making the car faster, safer and more powerful.

*Over the coming weeks the International Hot Rod Association will be taking an in-depth look at the parts and the people that make the Summit SuperSeries prize package the greatest prize package in all of motorsports. The Summit SuperSeries winners in Top ET, Mod ET and Junior Dragster at the Summit World Finals will each take home an elaborate prize package courtesy of the many great companies that remain dedicated to the grassroots racer. Thank you to all of our great sponsors and friends who help make this incredible program possible*

Summit SuperSeries Dragster Build Update

As the TNT Supercars dragster build continues for the Summit SuperSeries World Championship winner, the custom aero body is fabricated, complete with TNT's design aero ground effects lip. The body has been shipped off to Imagine That Customs for paint work. The concentration is on components and electric wiring being added to the 240" chassis that is back from powder coating in a charcoal gray finish. Many of the floor panels, raised ignition/accessory tray and internal panels are coated in a semi-gloss black for easy maintenance. The Front steering section consists of the steering rack mounted to a TNT designed removable rack & pinion mount and tied to the chrome moly steering arms and billet wheel spindles.

The electrical system includes the Digital Delay Elite Mega Dial and Switch Panel that is incorporated into a dual cable controlled Summit master cutoff switch. The heavy 12 volt feed from battery features remote charging post mounts and a remoter starter solenoid system.

The aluminum floor is .060 thick with step in braking pads and the chrome moly throttle and brake pedals, designed and constructed by TNT, feature positive stops for adjustability. The floor area also has a tunnel designed to protect lines and wiring, that pass to the engine area of the dragster. The shifter mount will host a number of standard shifter brands and the TNT butterfly steering wheel is connected to the rack and pinion set through a chrome moly steering shaft and u-joints and bushings. The driver area of the chassis also includes cable/brake line slots and the properly located seat belt mounts and hooks.

The wiring is carefully labeled, grouped and routed to their various chassis points, including the MSD systems and the Rock brand absorbed glass mat style battery.

Weld Racing V-Series line of Competition Wheels bring style, speed to SuperSeries dragster

Following in the race-winning heritage of the Weld Magnum 2.0 and Weld AlumaStar 2.0, the Summit Super Series Championship Dragster will feature the new V-Series wheels that are Weld Racing's newest drag wheel creation.

Weld Racing's newest professional drag race wheel is the result of almost a year of design and engineering exercises to create the most innovative racing wheel on the market today.

House of Payne

House of Payne Performance jumps at the chance to be a part of SuperSeries dragster

House of Payne Performance, headed by leading man and veteran racer Mark Payne, has been an IHRA staple for years. One of the winningest drivers on the Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour in 2013, Payne jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this year’s Summit SuperSeries dragster build by providing a starter and support for this year’s big winner. One of the first to get on board with the 2014 build, Payne’s contribution is another key component that makes this year’s Summit SuperSeries dragster a true prize.

Big Dawg

The Big Dawg 139 is a premiere 10 pitch starter made in the USA by House of Payne Performance and will be used to start the big cubic inches of the championship dragster. Designed for extreme starting conditions, this starter provides the ultimate in confidence and reliability. It is hand assembled with the best components including a strong sprag drive, true 3 horsepower motor, a heavy duty solenoid, all ball bearing construction, and custom aluminum block. Built to withstand the high demand of large cubic inch Chevy engines, the Big Dawg turns the engine over smoother and faster. When installed with a high quality 16 volt battery and 139 tooth flexplate, this starter will provide strong starts round after round.
