Team-Oriented Roxboro Motorsports Park to be Back with IHRA in 2023

Monday, 12 December 2022

HOUSE SPRINGS, Missouri — There’s nothing like the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Summit Team Finals for Roxboro Motorsports Park track manager Angela Mason.

The event highlights what the Timberlake, North Carolina facility is all about. Under the ownership of Jody Williams, they’ve formed a true bond with the racers and staff.

Mason, one of the track's managers along with Matt Davis, participates in the IHRA Summit Team Finals where the group enjoys the camaraderie with each other and other tracks.

“We love how we come together with the other tracks and enjoy the fellowship at team finals,” Mason said. “I have a great group of guys. We will share meals together and we literally do everything as a team from beginning to end.”

They always go to the event with a theme. It was breast cancer awareness in 2022 and will be autism awareness in 2023.

There is strong competition at Roxboro with Jamie Goodman (Box), Henry Stanley (No Box), Dalton Wilkinson (Jr. Dragster) and Glenda Cochran (Sportsman) the track’s representatives at the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals.

Goodman, a racer right across the border from Hurt, Virginia, won the Race of Champions for the Box class at the 2022 World Finals. Cochran was the Sportsman champion at the IHRA Division 1 (Patriots) Summit Team Finals. While Roxboro features tough competitors, they are extremely welcoming to outsiders.

“Most of the racers at Roxboro have never met a stranger, Mason said. “If you are new to Roxboro, you won’t be by the time you leave.”

The 1/8-mile track located on 40 acres has an up-to-date Accutime system and they offer a 330-feet dirt drag track for 4-wheelers and dirt bikes.

As for the family atmosphere, Mason’s husband and son race. There's even a Hot Wheels class where the grandkids compete in. She loves seeing the different generations come back and new visitors as well.

“We want to continue to grow,” she said. “We focus hard on the bracket program and we’re going to continue to grow."

Besides the weekly program, a major event is the Easter Bash. It will be the 64th annual event in 2023 and encompasses a whole weekend of exciting racing. The track is also community oriented and hosts an annual canned food drive along with one of the test-and-tune sessions in April. They’ve also hosted No Prep races, musical events, mud bogs and tractor pulls.
