The veteran-owned track in Ubly, Michigan celebrated its 60th year of racing in 2021. It’s a part of a family operation with owners Dennis and Linda Janowiak and their sons, Nick and Bryan, serving in the key roles.
They always have the racers in mind, often working with other area tracks to not schedule big events on the same weekend.
“Dennis and Linda Janowiak walk to the beat of their own drum at Ubly Dragway, providing amazing hospitality and customer service to anyone who enters the facility,” said IHRA Division Director Jon O’Neal. “That focus on the customer and family-first attitude is what shows through their racing programs and schedule and aids in the ever growing Summit SuperSeries program throughout the year.”
The 2021 schedule included regular points races as well as major bottom-bulb events, races for gassers and events designed for Mopar vehicles and Ford Mustangs. There are both 1/8-mile and 1/4-mile races on the historic drag strip.
Recent improvements include 160 feet of fresh concrete laid down, renovated restrooms and a concession stand along the walkway. It features a nice control tower overlooking the drag strip.
Located less than a half-hour from the shores of Lake Huron, an emphasis is placed on safe, comfortable, clean camping, which is always free. It’s part of why Ubly Dragway has such a special bond with its racers, who enjoy a fellowship with those share a passion for the sport.
Ubly Dragway also keeps a nice inventory of racing apparel featuring hoodies, t-shirts and sweatshirts.
Long a supporter of the IHRA Summit SuperSeries, Ubly racer Mark Pressey capture the Mod (No Box) World Championship in 2014.
Ubly Dragway representatives at the 2021 IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals were: Rick Woods (Top), Warren Smith (Mod) and Duane Alexander (Sportsman).
