Forecast forces postponement of IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular at Keystone Raceway Park

Thursday, 21 June 2018
WEST PALM BEACH- Fla.- When it rains it pours, as officials from the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and Keystone Raceway Park have had to postpone the rescheduled June 22-24 IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular event until the weekend of August 3-5, the sanctioning body announced today.
The New Alexandria, Pa., area, has endured many days of heavy rain with thunderstorms, and this week’s forecast calls for more of the same for several more days leading up to and including the weekend. In addition, flooding is expected throughout the week.

“It’s hard to express, in a politically correct way, the frustration we’re feeling while dealing with the 26-inches of rain we’ve faced this year,” Greg Miller, Keystone Raceway Park manager said. “With an inch and a half coming in last night, flash flooding in the area and more coming this weekend, we don’t have a decision to make.”

Racers who pre-entered for the event should keep their receipts on hand as pre-entries will be honored at the rescheduled date.

“The fight or flight instinct has kicked in on this one. We have an anxious staff ready to fight for a good experience but it doesn’t look like mother nature is going to give us a window long enough to make it worth it for our racers,” IHRA Division Director Jon O’Neal said. “It’s very rare that we can reschedule an event twice but the willingness of the facility management to find a date to combine with is reassuring.”

The IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular will resume with a double-event weekend at the historic Wilkesboro Dragway, in Wilkesboro, N.C., June 29-July 1.
