Weather and Track Surface Repairs Force Postponement of IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular at Darlington Dragway

Wednesday, 23 May 2018
WEST PALM BEACH- Fla.- Officials with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and Darlington Dragway have postponed the May 25-27 IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular event due to the forecast of rain for the weekend and track surface repairs, the sanctioning body announced today.
The new date of the IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular will be October 12-14.

The Hartsville, S.C. track had a new racing surface put in over the winter and needed some surface work in order to allow rubber to lay down properly and be safe for competitors.

“While it wouldn’t be a huge process to get done, we have had numerous days of rain and more coming which isn’t an enough time to get the track in proper racing condition,” Jimmy Bradshaw, Darlington Dragway general manager said. “Our goal is to have racers put on an exciting show on the safest track possible.”

“Jimmy Bradshaw and his team always provide a great facility to host an event. When talking with Jimmy this week, we collectively decided that it was best to postpone the event based on the forecast and current track repairs,” IHRA Division 2 & 9 Director Josh Peake said. “The group at Darlington Dragway keeps the racers best interest in mind when hosting an event.”

Racers who pre-entered for the event should keep their receipts on hand as pre-entries will be honored at the rescheduled date. Pre-entries will be reopened until Monday, October 1. Click here for online registration.

The IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular will resume with a double-event weekend, June 1-3 at the brand-new Xtreme Raceway Park in Ferris, Texas.
