The Neeses, S.C., track is a major drag racing facility with an excellent location near Interstate 26 and also a close proximity to Interstate 95. It makes for easy access for the racers and others to get to the 150-acre property which includes the South Carolina Mudplex.
There’s a great history with the International Hot Rod Association including South Carolina Motorplex named the IHRA Division 9 (Raiders) Track of the Year in 2019. Two years later, SC Motorplex racer Matthew Wright made a perfect run during eliminations at the 2021 IHRA Division 9 Summit Team Finals.
There is a rich family history in the sport. Roberson’s parents were IHRA members and she grew up . Williams is a record-setting motorcycle rider for the Hayabusa brand. In addition, three of the four children they’re raising are Junior Dragster competitors.
“We’re building this with our kids,” Roberson said. “We’re excited to continue the IHRA tradition at South Carolina Motorplex. We are finishing our schedule for this season and are excited to be in partnership with the IHRA.”
Beyond the bracket racing, they’re planning for announcements for grudge racing and other events.
It’s a facility which features popular refreshments including an ice cream trailer and pizza. There are heated and cooled restrooms and shower houses as well as RV hookups available for yearly spots or for specific events.
All that is needed as South Carolina Motorplex also hosts major concerts. Recent shows have included rapper Ryan Upchurch and country music star Tracy Lawrence.
Roberson has over 12 years of experience in community and economic development. Prior to that, she worked with the local chamber of commerce. She likes the variety which the complex provides, including multiple events at the Mudplex.
“I have a vested interest in drag racing because I grew up drag racing with my parents,” she said. “I’m also heavily invested in the local community. We’re so excited to continue the tradition of concerts and the events at our mud bog facility.”
