Friday, 29 September 2017

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 29, 2017) — Construction is in full swing at a pair of brand-new International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) member tracks with events scheduled over the coming weeks.

Racers and fans will be treated to new state-of-the-art facilities when they visit Xtreme Raceway Park in the metropolitan Dallas-Fort Worth area and the Onawa Racing and Events Complex in Onawa, Iowa.

“These two tracks are in great locations,” said Phil Gingerich, IHRA advisor for track development. “We’re getting so much positive feedback, excitement among the racers and local communities. The tracks local racers now have a chance to participate in the Summit SuperSeries and bracket racing programs.”

Xtreme

Xtreme Raceway Park is a 90-acre complex in Ferris, Texas which will feature an 1/8-mile, all-concrete track with concrete walls from the burnout box to the end of the track. There are six staging lanes, 400 feet long, and a 200-feet sand safety pit.

It features a concrete pit area and 2,750 feet of concrete from the starting line to the sand trap.

Scheduled for a November opening, suites sit over the burnout box. Grandstands are on both sides of the track, and the facility will feature plenty of other amenities like modern restrooms, showers and concession stands.

There is an abundance of Musco lighting, the lighting standard for sports stadiums around the world and even a fully-stocked fish pond for the racers.

onawa

The Onawa Raceway and Events Complex in Onawa, Iowa features an 1/8-mile drag strip, which can be easily converted into a 1/4-mile strip, with 3,400 feet of concrete laid down. The facility also has a 10,000 square-foot activities event center in the planning stages. Sitting on 105 acres, events from Motorsports to concerts and auctions will be part of the schedule once construction is completed.

An open house is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14 which will include street vehicle fun runs on the drag strip. In case of inclement weather, the open house will be held on Sunday, Oct. 15.

The track has been grinded and polished to have one of the flattest and finest professional finishes in drag racing. To make the facility even more racer-friendly, asphalt millings are being laid to widen turning radiuses and roadways.

The official grand opening will be scheduled in early 2018 once the timing system is operational and landscaping work is completed.
