Memphis International edges London Dragway for Division 2 West Summit Team Finals crown; SuperSeries field set

Six more drivers punched their ticket to the Summit Racing Equipment World Finals next weekend at Memphis International Raceway after reaching the finals of the Summit SuperSeries runoff at the Division 2 West Summit Team Finals in Memphis in a prelude to this weekend’s Summit World Finals.

The Summit SuperSeries field is now officially set with the addition of Summit SuperSeries runoff winners Chris Butcher (Top ET), Matt Anderson (Mod ET) and Jake Clayton (Junior Dragster) and SuperSeries runner-up finishers Eric Boyd (Top ET), Travis Snowden (Mod ET) and Justin Poindexter (Junior Dragster).

Memphis International Raceway took the team crown at the Division 2 West Summit Team Finals, edging London Dragway by one point, 39 to 38. Knoxville Dragstrip was third with 28 points, followed by Prescott Raceway with 26 points and Mountain Park Dragway with 22 points. The remaining teams were I-64 Motorplex (21), Middle Tennessee Dragway (21), Alabama International Dragway (19), Brainerd Optimist Dragway (11), Atmore Dragway (8), Gulfport Dragway (5) and Montgomery Motorsports Park (3).

   Summit SuperSeries Top ET Final: Chris Butcher vs. Eric Boyd

Chris Butcher took Saturday’s most exciting final as the racer representing the I-64 Motorplex in Kentucky went down to the wire against Brainerd Optimist Dragway’s Eric Boyd. Butcher got the jump on the line with a .002 reaction time to Boyd’s .006 and Butcher nearly aced the run with a 6.169 elapsed time on a 6.16 dial at 108.03 miles per hour. Boyd was just behind with a 4.902 on a 4.85 at 142.63 mph.

In Mod ET Memphis International Raceway’s Matt Anderson benefited from his experiences at his home track by taking the Mod ET championship over Mountain Park Dragway’s Travis Snowden. Snowden lit the red light by -.024, but Anderson still had solid numbers with a 7.207 on a 7.18.

Finally in Junior Dragster Jake Clayton, representing Brainerd Optimist Dragway, benefited from a .012 red light by opponent Justin Poindexter from Memphis International Raceway. Clayton cut a .071 light with a 8.144 on a 8.09 dial.

Other big winners from the Division 2 West Summit Team Finals were Main Event winners Ken Laboe from Middle Tennessee Dragway in Top ET, Jeremy Bargo from London Dragway in Mod ET and Kayla Long from Knoxville Dragstrip in Junior Dragster.
