Member Tracks Make Racers Feel Extra Special at IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals

Friday, 06 October 2023

HOLLY SPRINGS, Ms. — It’s always a great accomplishment to make it to the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals presented by Strange Engineering. A pair of IHRA-member tracks made it a point to give their racers something to display to commemorate this special moment.

Muncie Dragway printed out big checks for all of its racers who are representing the Indiana track this week at Holly Springs Motorsports Park. Shane Daugherty, who is racing a 1965 Plymouth Belvedere in the Mod (No Box) class, talked about what it means to be at the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals presented by Strange Engineering.

“It’s a great opportunity to be down here with a lot of great racers,” Daugherty said. “I know several of them so you hope you line up with them in the staging lanes and get it done. There is great fellowship and that’s what we’re all about at Muncie Dragway. We have a good family of racers who fellowship every weekend and we continued it down here.”

Most of the Muncie contingent pitted together and they posed for a group shot with the special big checks. The Muncie racers at the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals presented by Strange Engineering include: Pat McCreery, Stacy Jarrell, Greg Brown, Daugherty, Gary Blankenship, Derek Simon and Addison Jones.

Brown, Daugherty and Simon qualified for the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals by their victories in the IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Engineering and FuelTech back in July.

“I enjoy racing with IHRA. It seems to be a friendly atmosphere than other organizations,” said Brown, who is racing his Ford Ranger pickup in the Top (Box) class. “They’re more personal with the Sportsman guys. Like Shane said, it’s a great opportunity to race against the best in the country and meet new people. You form friendships unlike any other sport, like a big family.”

Pacemakers Outlaws Motorsports Park printed out special banners for its racers. Madeline Rodgers proudly posed with her banner and Junior Dragster in her pit area. It’s just another way, the IHRA and its tracks continue to distinguish itself from other racing organizations.

The drivers all took early runs down the track as they prepare for today’s Race of Champions Gamblers and tomorrow’s main event which features over $275,000 in prizes and payouts.
