LONDON, Ky. — Racers from the Bluegrass State used their home track knowledge to score big victories at the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Engineering and Fuel Tech at London Dragway.

Over 250 competitors showed up to compete at the beautiful facility located in scenic Eastern Kentucky. In the end, it was the home-state racers who swept the final-round spots.

Benny Combs from Barbourville, Ky., topped the Top (Box) field for a $5,000-to-win victory. Combs had a slight advantage at the starting tree against hometown racer Dustin Chesnut from London and then posted a 6.131-second run at 111.33 mph against a 6.11 dial-in. Chesnut powered down the track in 4.842 seconds at 140.93 mph, but broke out against his 4.85 dial-in.

Along with the prestigious IHRA Ironman Trophy, Combs and other IHRA-member race winners earned a trip to the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals at Holly Springs, Mississippi with their victories.

Phil Combs, the nephew of the Top winner, captured the Mod (No Box) victory and the $1,200 check that went with it. Combs, a Demossville, Ky. resident, posted a 6.189-second elapsed time at 104.87 mph against a 6.16 dial-in. He also won when his final-round opponent, Doug Burks from Tompkinsville, Ky., broke out. Facing a 6.02 dial-in, Burks finished in 5.972 seconds at 116.67 mph.

Logan Robertson from Jamestown, Ky., won the Sportsman final on a holeshot with a .025 better reaction time than Fred Mitchell from Barbourville. It gave Robertson a close victory as  his final pass ended in 7.586 seconds at 86.94 mph against a 7.56 dial-in. Mitchell was right at his 8.11 dial with an 8.114-second run at 83.41 mph.

In the other all-Kentucky final, Hunter Reynolds from Mt. Washington took the Junior Dragster victory. He combined a 7.986-second run at 80.62 mph against a 7.96 dial-in with a .635 reaction time.
