KD Motorsports Park, IHRA Agree to Multi-Year Renewal

Thursday, 16 November 2023

SOUTH WEBSTER, Ohio — KD Motorsports Park found a good home with the International Hot Rod Association and will continue under IHRA sanction thanks to a multi-year agreement announced today.

The Southeastern Ohio track near the Kentucky border is an 1/8-mile track distinguished by the big hill at the end of the shutdown area. Since founded by Darrell Leadingham in 1989, the track has hosted a variety of race cars including Jet Cars and Pro Stock, but it was the desire to grow its bracket series program that brought KD Motorsports Park back to the IHRA in 2023.

It proved to be highly successful with KD Motorsports participating in the IHRA Summit SuperSeries, the most prestigious national championship in all of bracket racing. Jerry Moore represented KD Motorsports Park in the Top (Box) class at the 2023 IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals and Patrick McFadden competed in the Mod (No Box) class.

“You couldn’t have asked for a better organization than IHRA,” track owner Tony DePerno said. “I like the marketing and promotional aspect of it, the ease of talking to everyone. You work with them and they work with you. They call and check on you. It’s amazing how they personally get involved.”

DePerno is a racer at heart. He grew up around a Nitro car and has raced Super Gas, Super Comp and Alcohol Funny Car. DePerno’s own experience bracket racing started with IHRA. There were some struggles bringing back the bracket program, but everyone knew it wasn’t going to be an overnight fix.

“We’re building the bracket program. It had a bad reputation here in the past,” DePerno said. “It’s a building process.”

KD Motorsports Park hosts what track officials describe as “Insane All-Out No Prep Racing,” Big Tire and Small Tire events. DePerno has created a fun atmosphere with “Run What You Brung” and “Daily Driver” classes at the No Prep events.

This spring, we’re putting concrete walls in and we’re working towards more upgrades.”

The “Cash Days” series that travels around the country picked KD Motorsports Park as its lone stop in the state of Ohio. DePerno works hard to make sure racers and fans have a memorable time. A great example was when the racing got rained out for their Halloween weekend, they went ahead and still had a great “Track or Treat” event for the kids.
