Final-Round Recap, IHRA Summit Sportsman National Championship Palm Beach Makeup at Darlington Dragway

DARLINGTON, S.C. — The International Hot Rod Association moved to historic Darlington Dragway for the sixth of 15 weekends that comprise the Summit Sportsman National Championship.

It included Friday’s conclusion of the February weekend from Palm Beach International Raceway.

Competitors entered events in the following classes: Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Super Stock, Stock, Quick Rod, Super Rod, Hot Rod and Junior Dragster.  Full results are available here: http://dragstory.com/forum/index.php?board=292.0; a recap is below:

Top Dragster: Ivey Brannon from Boiling Springs, S.C., won the Top Dragster final at the starting tree with a .006 reaction time and a 4.463 run and 148.71 mph on a 4.44 dial-in. Tim Butler from Sarasota, Fla., finished runner-up with a 4.792 run at 143.59 mph on a 4.78 dial-in and a .028 reaction time.

Top Sportsman: Doug Gbur from Greer, S.C., captured the victory as David Rackley of Wilmington, N.C., red-lighted in the Top Sportsman final. Gbur matched his 4.68-dial in with a 4.689 elapsed time at 149.06 mph on a .036 reaction time. Rackley finished at 15.323 seconds at 45.19 mph on a 4.91 dial-in.

Quick Rod: With both drivers matching their 5.70 dial-ins, Danny Waters Jr. from LaGrange, N.C., put together a better overall package to edge fellow Tar Heel driver Jimmy Collins from Walkertown, N.C. Waters ran 5.709 at 145.26 mph with a .009 reaction time. Collins posted a 5.709 at 145.68 mph with a .013 reaction time.

Super Rod: Craig Porter from Silver Spring, Md., emerged victorious against Darius Poitier from Louisville, Ga., in the Super Rod final. Porter went down the track in 6.423 seconds at 125 mph and a .063 reaction time. Poitier was quicker at the tree with a .016 reaction time. He finished with a 6.388 elapsed time at 128.53 mph.

Hot Rod: David Lincoln from Charleston, S.C. parlayed a great start with a .002 reaction time to a win over Chris Webb from Four Oaks, N.C. in the Hot Rod final. Lincoln posted a 7.005 elapsed time at 105.83 mph. Webb went 7.003 at 99.36 mph and had a .030 reaction time.

Super Stock: Charles Wisecarver Jr. from Rustberg, Va., went 6.149 seconds at 109.81 mph on a 6.13 dial-in with a .010 reaction time in his Super Stock win. Pete DAgnolo from Rochester, N.Y., matched his dial-in at 6.107 seconds and ran 107.37 mph. But he left too early with a -.014 reaction time.

Stock: Willie Mylan from Ravenel, S.C., had the better overall package with a 6.544 elapsed time at 101.56 mph and a .049 reaction time on a 6.53 dial-in. Al Brister from Beaufort, N.C., finished at 6.929 seconds and 93.32 mph and had a .063 reaction time with a 6.88 dial-in.

Junior Dragster: Morgan Wilson of Laurens, S.C., took top honors in Junior Dragster with a 7.910 elapsed time at 82.92 mph on 7.90 dial-in and a .079 reaction time. Samuel Peterson from Martin, Mich., matched his 8.14 dial-in at 80.11 mph, but left the line a tad early with a -.005 reaction time.
