Albright, Savoia lead Pro-Am qualifying at Hebron

HEBRON, Ohio — Matt Albright and Mike Savoia led Top Dragster and Top Sportsman qualifying Thursday at the IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series races at Darana Raceway, Hebron.

Albright posted the low elapsed time at 3.777 seconds and fastest speed among the rail cars at 192.88 mph. Ashley Johnson was next at 3.834 seconds and 190.19 mph, and Dan Davies was third with the action captured live on SpeedSport 1.

Savoia posted a 3.994-second pass at 179.86 mph. Bob Mandell Jr. was second at 4.020 seconds, while No. 3 qualifier Bob Mandell III had the fastest speed at 183.52 mph.

Kathleen Smulligan was best in Quick Rod at 5.709 seconds and 138.12 mph. Derrick Willard was tops in Super Rod at 6.404 seconds and 126.51 mph with Benson winner Keith Mayers the No. 2 qualifier.

Each of the Rod classes went far in eliminations Friday. Ron Stayer Jr., Gary Fleenor and Rick Stroud made it to the Quick Rod semifinals. Super Rod went all the way to the end of the bracket with Stroud and Mike Coughlin to meet in the final.

Brian Webster went 7.002 seconds at 100.72 mph to take the No. 1 spot in Hot Rod qualifying.

Webster, Shawn Pitts, Lawrence Paden and Glenn Ferguson advanced to the Hot Rod semifinals.

Earl Roe was the No. 1 qualifier in Super Stock with a 6.396-second pass on a 6.37 dial-in. The final four in eliminations are Homer Carty, Rodney Worrell, Mark Nowicki and Brett McFarland.

David Bares was at the top of the ladder in Stock and he made it to the quarterfinals. McFarland, Randy Eakins and Michael Ours advanced to the semifinals.

Action starts Friday at 10 a.m. with the Pros. Snowmobile, Top Alcohol Funny Car and Top Alcohol Dragster are the first classes on tap.
