Gleason Raceway Park Getting Ready to Host Junior Dragster Spectacular

Friday, 18 August 2023

GLEASON, Tenn. — Some of the best young drag racers in the Mid-South will be highlighted on Saturday, August 26 when Gleason Raceway Park hosts the Junior Dragster Spectacular.

This event features races for the Lightning (ages 10-17) and Thunder (ages 6-9) classes with the prestigious IHRA Ironman trophies to be awarded to the main event winner in each class.

For the Lightning class, it’s $1,000 to the winner and $400 for the runner-up. The Thunder racers will compete for $500 for the winner and $300 for the runner-up. It’s $50 entry for the Lightning class and $40 for the Thunder class.

After the main race, there is a FREE second-chance race where drivers get to compete for another $500-to-win top prize and $250 for the runner-up. Besides the cash offerings, other prizes have been donated for the event.

Gates open at 2 p.m. and timed runs start at 3 p.m. It’s $10 entry for crew and spectators with kids 12-under admitted free.

The track has undergone significant upgrades since the Northup family took over the property in 2021. They’ve added 250 feet of shutdown as a safety measure and poured tons of concrete. It has paid off with some great racing at Gleason Raceway Park, including IHRA Summit SuperSeries points races this weekend.
