Excitement building for Maryland International Raceway’s All-Junior Dragster Team Finals event

Tuesday, 11 June 2013

With the announcement that Maryland International Raceway will host the All-Junior Team Finals the weekend of July 5-7, tracks and competitors are gearing up for the excitement and a huge weekend of racing.

Track owner and operator, Royce Miller would like to invite everyone to this awesome event saying, "I am looking forward to seeing all the great Jr Dragster racers and families. As always it will be a fun weekend with the water gun fight, wacky eliminators and great racing. Be sure to invite your fellow Jr racers so they don't miss out!"

While all IHRA, NHRA and independent tracks are still invited to send up to three teams of 10 racers, competitors whose tracks will not be sending a team will still be able to participate. Each team will compete for individual points as well as team points.

“I have heard from many junior competitors who wanted to attend this event and couldn’t because their track did not want to send a team. We have now opened up the event to all junior competitors,” said Sherrie Barbour, IHRA Director of Special Programs. “Another change will be accepting current IHRA or NHRA licenses. As long as they have one or the other they will be good to compete. Competitors will still be able to get their IHRA licenses at the event.”

Carolina Dragway is one of the teams that will be on hand at Maryland.

“As a track owner and a junior parent, the Junior Team Finals at Maryland is a must attend event for our family each year. Royce and family do a wonderful job of entertaining the kids and hosting an awesome event each year, said Jeff Miles, Operator at Carolina Dragway. “Of course the highlight is the water fight each year! Last year our team didn't fare as well as we had hoped, but this year we are pumped and ready. Our junior have their sights on the championship and I personally challenge all other track operators to bring it on!”

“IHRA and Royce Miller have made this event one of the biggest events on the East Coast and it is defiantly all about the kids,” said Mike Anderson, Operator at Sumerduck Dragway. “This event is what Junior Dragster competition is all about. I’ll put any one of my junior racers against any of theirs. We are coming to kick butt, and I have just the kids to do it.”

Maryland International will host the event the weekend of July 5-7. All IHRA, NHRA and independent tracks are welcome and have until July 1 to register with IHRA.  Competitors will not have to choose between the ET bracket races and the index races. They will be permitted to run in both on Saturday. There will also be two team bonus races on Saturday, one for the ET bracket and one for the Index where the winners of each will receive a pizza party.
