Gulfport Dragway Provides Exciting Racing Action

GULFPORT, Miss. — Gulfport Dragway hosted a major race in its Brandy Dress IHRA Summit SuperSeries presented by Bone Shaker Motorsports program the weekend of Aug. 21-22.

Known as South Mississippi’s Premier Dragway, the action lived up to the billing with a pair of exciting days of racing.

Daniel Rolison took top honors in the Electronics (Box) class. Using a double-entry, he also scored the runner-up finish with Robby Clarke making it to the semifinals.

In the Footbrake (No Box) class, Danny Paul rolled to the win with Opie Pierce making it to the final round. Brandon Henry was a semifinalist. Curtis Allen ruled in the Sportsman class with Carl Schaefer taking runner-up honors.

The Junior Dragsters were separated into three different age groups. Bentley Wright was the winner with Elleighanna Skyes the runner-up in the 7-9 age bracket. Hayden Miller was the 10-12 winner with Wright, also competing and taking the runner-up spot. Rylee Wells triumphed for the 13-17 year-olds will Miller stepping up and making the final round.

Greg Rolison was the Electronics (Box) winner for Race 2 with Johnny Holley his final-round opponent. David Kleinman and Steven Barnett each made semifinal runs.

Danny Paul scored the weekend sweep in Sportsman with Mike Barnett taking the runner-up spot. Opie Pearce followed up his second-place finish in Race 1 by making the semifinals.

Curtis Allen also doubled up in the Sportsman class, taking the final-round win over Jeremy Allen.

It was a repeat in the Junior Dragster, 7-9 class with Wright besting Skyes again in the final round. Wright continued the big weekend by making it a second 10-12 final, but came up short to race winner Zack Pearce.

Reagan Wells completed the list of winners, winning the Junior Dragster, 13-17 final over Velicity Morris.

Drivers in the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Summit SuperSeries are getting ready for IHRA Summit Team Finals and the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals at Memphis International Raceway on Oct. 14-16.
