Fix Picks Up Two Wins at IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering at Empire Dragway

LEICESTER, N.Y. — Mason Fix took home winner’s checks from two classes at Saturday’s IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering at Empire Dragway.

Fix, an Amherst, New York driver, captured the Pro (No Box) victory when final-round opponent Reid Ricketson was -.009 too quick at the tree. Fix had a .022 reaction time and posted a 7.108-second elapsed time at 94.42 mph on a 7.11 dial-in. The red light eliminated a potential winning effort by Ricketson, who went down the drag strip in 6.851 seconds at 97.66 mph against a 6.85 dial-in.

The fun wasn’t over for Fix, who also emerged as the winner in the Street class. He finished with an 8.821-second pass at 79.74 mph against an 8.81 dial-in. Brandon Iamele was runner-up with a 7.744-second run at 92.31 run and a 7.73 dial-in. Both drivers were solid at the start, with equal .040 reaction times.

In an extremely close Super Pro (Box) final, Crystal Curpier from West Onetona, N.Y., took the win over Davy Markle from Scottsville. Curpier rocketed down the track in 4.786 seconds at 143.30 mph on a 4.77 dial-in. Markle was hot on her heels with a 4.666-second run at 140.71 mph. Markle had a slight advantage the start with a .015 reaction time to .016 for Curpier.

The race featured two classes of Junior Dragsters.

Alanna Pellicane from Attica, N.Y. was the A Junior winner as sister Natalie was just -.001 too quick at the start. Alanna went down the 1/8-mile in 8.041 seconds at 81.26 mph. Natalie had a 9.009 second run at 69.78 mph.

Julia Varney won the B Junior final on a holeshot with a .004 start to .063 for Niko Zissis. Varney’s elapsed time was 7.979 seconds and 80.62 mph against a 7.99 dial-in. Zissis made a 7.873-second pass at 83.97 mph against a 7.90 dial-in.

The IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering will be back in action the weekend of August 19-21 with events at Maryland International Raceway and Pine Valley Raceway, Lufkin, Texas.
