Spaugh, Vogler Capture Big Wins at IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering at Farmington

MOCKSVILLE, N.C. — David Spaugh and Robert Vogler III were big winners at the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering at Farmington Dragway.

The two-day event was specially tailored to Farmington’s racing programs.

Spaugh, driving Doug Walker’s black Chevrolet Vega, captured Saturday’s Top Eliminator win out of 85 entries. He defeated the Fulton-powered dragster of Missy Goodman in the final round. Mitchell McKinney and Shannon Woodring were semifinalists.

In the Footbrake Battle of Champions, Jeff Flood drove another Vega to the win when final-round opponent Ernie Humes III in his Dodge Demon. Jacob Ritchie reached the semifinals.

Branson Hutchens captured the Iron Man for the Junior Dragster in his Drifter 3 car. Chandler Allen made it to the final round with Brian Yerger Jr. a semifinalist.

Michael Davis picked up the Race of Champions win over Tesla Todd Payne. In PTRA action, Travis Matthis scored the 7.0 Index victory over David Lester, who was too quick at the tree.

 

Steve Sechlar powered his Chevrolet Camaro to the 6.0 Index win over Larry Barnes in a Corvette. Bo Bohanon came out of retirement to take the PTE win over Coy McLeod.

 

Sunday action was highlighted by the special “Old School Jerry and Norman $2K” race. Vogler, piloted his dragster to the $2,000 victory and Ironman trophy by .010 over Mark “Pork” Jones. Joe Hartsell reached the semifinals in his Dodge.

Humes won by his Ironman by the closest of margins after locking horns with Kaleb “The Bull” Greene in Footbrake. Humes, in the Deadly Dodge Demon, was just .0002 seconds better than Greene in his Chevy Nova. Levi Boozer and Todd Payne were semifinalists.

Kyndall Murphy earned her first Junior Dragster win of the year and first IHRA Ironman by beating Calla Varner in the final. Hutchens was the lone semifinalist.

Track champions were also crowned in the following: Stuart Smith (Top Eliminator), Ernie Humes III (Footbrake) and Brian Yerger Jr. (Junior Dragster).

Another IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering is scheduled for Saturday at Mo-Kan Dragway.
