Major Improvements Take Place at Milan Dragway
MILAN, Mich. — Milan Dragway has undergone major improvements since its recent acquisition by IHRA owner Darryl Cuttell.
These significant upgrades have been made with the racers and fans in mind. Track manager Johnny Quick talked about some of the work noted track specialist Kurt Johnson and his TVC company have done to the quarter-mile racing surface.
“Everything is getting prepared where it’s super smooth and flat with all the grinding and profiling of the race track,” Quick said. “If you see the before and after, it’s way better now. It’s one of the top two percent in the country now with how flat it is.”
The work isn’t done as they’re currently working on the shutdown area of the track. CB Asphalt helped paved the track and the pits despite some underlying problems literally.
“A lot of the paving gave us problems because there wasn’t a base under it,” Quick explained. “That’s why some of it cracked so bad. So he’s had to grind it out and then build a base there before they could asphalt over it.”
Where there were rocks before in the pits, almost everything has been paved now. Across the street where the parking was dirt, the process has begun to pave it as well. It is making Milan Dragway a much nicer place to visit.
In addition, the walls are getting repainted to give everyone a better visual experience. Cuttell also purchased property next to the facility which is being cleared out for additional parking for major events.
More projects are planned for the future as the goal is to make this historic venue a world-class facility. Quick, a noted grudge racer with his famous orange Ford Mustang, is excited to see all the work being done at his home track.
