Union Dragway Looking for Another Strong Crowd for IHRA Summit SuperSeries Race

UNION, S.C. — Union Dragway was pleased with a great turnout of cars and drivers for its first International Hot Rod Assocation (IHRA) Summit SuperSeries race on March 30.

The South Carolina dragstrip is looking for another strong crowd this Saturday when it hosts its second race in the IHRA State of the Union Points Series presented by DeCerbo Construction.

“We had a lot of folks coming to us that first race, and it was a major blessing having that many cars for a one-day event,” Union Dragway track manager Tony Brown said. “Our points payout has had a lot to do with it. We love our bracket racing.”

The IHRA certainly loves bracket racing as well. The organization recently showed its commitment to the grassroots racers by significantly increasing payouts for the IHRA Summit SuperSeries Team Finals and World Finals. Brown also talked about the commitment shown by IHRA Division Director Doug Foley Jr. at their season-opening race.

“Doug helped out with the race, but he also sold a lot of memberships, making sure people had an easy time joining IHRA,” Brown said. “Truly, a big thanks to Foley.”

Bobby Bartlett was the Top ET winner at the first race with Terrell Biddle taking the runner-up spot. Matt Hager was victorious in Modified with Aaron Brock his final-round opponent.

Evan Sansenbaugher won the season-opener in the Sportsman class with Dustin Carroll making it to the final round. Oakley Humphries beat Tyler Chapman in the Junior Dragster final. Holden Raper was the TCR winner with Parker Chavis runner-up.

There is a test-and-tune Friday night from 6-11 p.m. There’s the Craig Hipp Gambler Series with first round at 7:45 p.m. plus Ten Five Friday starting at 8:15 p.m. It’s $25 to test with spectator admission $15.

Gates open 8:30 a.m. Saturday with time trials to begin at 11 a.m. Spectator admission is $20 with kids 12-under admitted free.
