Syers Remembered as an Inspiration, Champion Racer
The International Hot Rod Association remembers Teri Syers whose determination to be a champion despite battling cancer proved to be an inspiration for all. Syers died Tuesday. She was 52.
Syers won back-to-back Sportsman championships at I57 Dragstrip in 2023-24. She competed in both the IHRA Team Finals and the IHRA SuperSeries World Finals.
She was a frequent competitor in her silver Chevy S-10 pickup at three IHRA partner tracks in three different stats. Besides racing at I57 in Illinois, she competed at Beacon Dragway in Kentucky and Skelton Raceway in Missouri.
Her toughness and determination earned the respect of her competitors. Her kindness and caring made her popular in the pits.
I57 paid tribute through a Facebook post that read, “Our hearts are broken today as we say goodbye to a great racer, friend, mom and wife. Teri Syers will be forever part of I57. Her family history is embedded in us. A true racer at heart who was fearless, a leader in her class and a defending 2-time champion, she will be forever missed. Rest easy champ.”
We remember her husband Tom and the rest of her family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.
