Reutzel, Hantke, Delfs, Finder and Scribner Enjoy IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Victories at Humboldt

HUMBOLDT, IA — Iowa isn’t only home of “Field of Dreams.” Humboldt County Dragway was where a half-dozen racers saw their dreams come true in the Hawkeye State on Saturday night.

Mike Reutzel, Fred Hantke, Craig Delfs, Pat Finder and Mackenzie Scribner all captured victories in the IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Engineering. Henry Skogland won a race for the track's Street class, separate from the Sportsman Spectacular prizes.

Racers took home prestigious IHRA Ironman trophies and limited-edition Sportsman Spectacular commemorative. Race winners, who were IHRA members in the Top, Mod, Sportsman and Motorcycle classes, gained entry into the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals presented by Strange Engineering.

Reutzel topped the eliminations in the Top (Box) class. He posted a 5.777-second pass at 120 mph on a 5.72 dial with a .044 reaction time. Runner-up Brad Nickerson finished in 6.447 seconds at 104.92 mph on a 6.35 dial with a .063 start.

Hantke won the Mod (No Box) class with a 6.995-second elapsed time at 86.62 mph on a 6.90 dial. Darwin Petersen, who had a .055 to .087 advantage at the start, was off the pace in the final round. He ended in 8.99 seconds at 51.30 mph on a 5.92 dial.

Delfs, who doubled up with two wins in last year’s 60th anniversary race, won the Sportsman class when final-round opponent Rick Pitzer fouled at the start. Delfs went down the track in 7.48 seconds at 92.25 mph on a 7.47 dial. Pitzer made a pass at 7.78 seconds and 92.61 mph, but was just -.002 too quick at the start.

Skogland was the track’s Street class winner despite a much better launch by Tim Nelson. Skogland’s winning package included a 9.121-second elapsed time at 78.62 mph on a 9.10 dial. Nelson had a .021 to .198 better reaction time, but came up just short with a 7.939-second pass at 85.99 mph on a 7.60 dial.

It was unopposed Motorcycle final round for Finder. He went down the track in 5.447 seconds at 129.05 mph with a 5.44 dial-in.

Scribner won the Junior Dragster final on a holeshot .022 to .108 over Tyler Honomichl. Scribner added a 7.942-second pass at 79.76 mph on a 7.90 dial. Honomichl had a 8.15 dial-in time and posted a run of 8.178 second at 76.31 mph.

After a whirlwind few weeks, the IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Engineering is scheduled to return June 22 at Albuquerque Dragway.
