Thompson, Walters, Robbins, VanNote Score Victories at IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser at Muncie Dragway

MUNCIE, IN — Four racers — Nick Thompson, Keith Walters, Jordan Robbins and Lane VanNote — scored victories in Saturday’s IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Engineering at Muncie Dragway.

Racers earned special IHRA Ironman trophies, big checks and commemorative medals at the historic Indiana track. Winners, who were IHRA members, earned spots in the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals presented by Strange Engineering.

Thompson took home a $5,000 big check and a special silver Ironman trophy to match his silver Ford Mustang after beating David Gilden in the Super Pro (Box) final. Both drivers were quick at the line and both broke out against their dial-in times. Thompson’s winning package was 6.465 seconds at 104.20 mph against a 6.47 dial-in. Gilden, who had the razor thin .007 to .010 advantage at the tree, went down the eighth-mile in 6.756 seconds at 101.97 mph against a 6.77 dial-in.

Walters was the Pro (No Box) winner after final-round opponent Kyle Hall was too quick at the start. Walters, who received a $2,000 big check, made a 6.656-second pass at 98.08 mph in his white Chevy S-10 after his .016 reaction time. Hall went 6.609 seconds at 102.52 mph with a 6.62 dial-in, but it was negated by his -.008 reaction time.

The Sportsman final was also determined by a red-light start. Robbins, driving a black Ford Mustang, got a great .007 start and then went down the drag strip in 14.074 seconds at 83.97 mph against a 13.83 dial-in. Brian Hendrickson left the starting line -.006 too quick and finished runner-up.

VanNote, whose Junior Dragster is sponsored by Moser, won on a holeshot, .027 to .205, over runner-up Brayden Gilden. VanNote posted a 9.056-second run at 64.99 mph against an 8.97 dial-in. Gilden, joined his father for runner-up photos, after his 8.199-second elapsed time at 79.19 mph on an 8.11 dial.

The IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser returns to action July 6 at another Indiana track, Bunker Hill Dragstrip, on Saturday, July 6.
