WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A shining star in the Lone Star State, Little River Dragway has been named the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Division 4 (Renegades) Track of the Year.

The Holland, Texas track is home to great weekly racing and major events. Little River Dragway hosted both the IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering and the IHRA Junior Dragster Team Finals in 2021.

Long a racers’ favorite, Little River Dragway was previously recognized as IHRA Division 4 Track of the Year in 2013.

“Little River is a family-owned track and they are all racers so they get it, they understand what racers want and do a fantastic job of applying that mentality,” IHRA Division Director Frank Kohutek said. “You can tell that they are in for the long haul.”

They’ve produced champion racers for a long time.

Michael Wayne Turman was the runner-up in the Mod (No Box) class at the 2020 IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals.

It is also the home track for Chance Turman and Graeme Rufenacht, two of the most accomplished young racers in the country. Rufenacht won five track and series championships in 2019. He races at different tracks throughout the region, but put in simple terms what makes Little River so special.

“At Little River, the track owner is nice. All the people who work there and the people I race with are nice,” Rufenacht said. “We get to go out there and have fun.”

Rufenacht added to his winning ways by capturing the Quick 16 race at the IHRA Junior Dragster Team Finals. The future looks bright with Parker Richey the winner in the Beginner class.

A pair of other Little River racers — Tina Hudel and Fred Garvin — won special awards for the best appearing open wheel and best engineered full bodied cars. They also had the best appearing team.

Steve Dingman was the track’s Top (Box) representative at the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals. The familiar names of Michael Turman, Chance Turman and Schoemer were other Little River Dragway representatives.
