I-64 Motorplex Named IHRA Division 3 Track of the Year

Sunday, 28 November 2021

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Kentucky track I-64 Motorplex has been named the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Division 3 (North Stars) Track of the Year.

The Owingsville, Ky., track serves as an outstanding example of a family atmosphere and some of the most competitive racing in the entire country. It’s an easy to reach, convenient location as the name suggests right off Interstate 64.

Formerly known as Bluegrass Raceway Park, track owners Tim and Donna Baldridge have gone out of their way to make the facility racer friendly. They make it a point to visit with the racers over the weekend and have done several upgrades in the decade since taking over the Eastern Kentucky facility.

The property features a 1/8-mile drag strip and some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, routinely bringing in racers from Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio as well as the Bluegrass State. During the height of the COVID-19 restrictions in 2020, they did an exceptional working with Bath County officials to provide a strong racing program.

“There’s no hurdle that Tim and Donna Baldridge are afraid to hurdle to keep the gates at I-64 open to their racers,” said IHRA Division Director Jon O’Neal.  “Fighting seemingly insurmountable odds is a daily occurrence, but that sits in the background as the racing program provides the best of the Summit SuperSeries to the loyal racers.”

Mason Hatton faced strong competition at I-64 Dragway throughout the year and it helped propel him to the 2020 IHRA Summit SuperSeries Mod (No Box) Championship. That family atmosphere was never more evident than the IHRA World Finals when the Holstion family offered their car as a backup for Hatton, who was having trouble with his black 1964 Chevrolet Nova.

Hatton represented I-64 again at the 2021 IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals. Other track champions were: Tim Leighty (Top), Chad Roe (Sportsman) and Nataleigh Kirk (Junior Dragster). In addition, Travis Parsley reached the final round at the Race of Champions at the IHRA Division 3 Summit Team Finals.
