Thunder Valley Dragways Claim IHRA Division 6 (Midwest) Summit Team Finals Victory

MARION, SD — Thunder Valley Dragways captured its first-ever IHRA Division 6 (Midwest) Summit Team Finals championship on Saturday night.

Racing at their home track, Thunder Valley’s Team 1 raced to a 64-55 win over Humboldt Dragway Team 2. Thunder Valley’s Team 2 was right behind with 54 points, followed by Humboldt Team 1 with 22 points.

Two wheels topped four wheels as Brian Wood rode his motorcycle in a Top (Box) final victory over fellow Humboldt Team 2 member Mark Wudel. Wood fired up a 5.510-second effort at 123.90 mph on a 5.48 dial-in. Wudel had the better reaction time, .009 to .045, but broke out with a 6.675-second run at 102.58 mph on a 6.68 dial-in.

Thunder Valley Team 1 racers faced off in the Mod (No Box) final with a stellar field of 81 entries. Colton Bierle took the victory over Barc Smith. Bierle had the .009 start to go along with a 5.937-second pass at 104.70 mph with a 5.87 dial-in. Smith went down the track in 6.887 seconds at 99.58 mph on a 6.79 dial-in with a .025 reaction time.

Wade Lardy from Humboldt Team 2 was the Sportsman winner as final-round opponemt Ben Kwasniewski, representing Thunder Valley Team 1, red-lighted by a mere -.001 second. Lardy’s winning package included a 7.863-second run at 89.95 n a 7.83 dial-in. If not for the foul, Kwasniewski’s 7.501 seconds at 92.27 on a 7.49 dial would’ve trigged the win light.

The Motorcycle final saw Mike Robbins win a final-round matchup with Thunder Valley 2 teammate Dean Nixon also in the final. Robbins, racing a sled, finished in 5.501 seconds at 127.14 mph against a 5.47 dial-in. Nixon was better .027 to .052 at the tree, but broke out on his 5.66 dial with a 5.657-second pass at 118.95 mph.

Kaden Crawford from Thunder Valley Team 2 got the Junior Dragster trophy with his good friend, Tyler Honomichl from Thunder Valley Team 1, taking the runner-up spot. Crawford posted a 7.985-second run at 80.70 mph against a 7.96 dial-in with a .133 reaction time. Honomichl’s potential winning effort of 8.194 seconds at 78.86 mph on an 8.17 dial was negated by him going -.007 too quick at the start.

IHRA Teen Championship Racing (TCR) was at the IHRA Summit Team Finals for the first time. Dylan Medenwald beat TVD 1 teammate Kala Kwasniewski in the final round as both had family members on the team. Medenwald had the winning run of 10.664 seconds at 67.36 mph on a 10.57 dial. Kwasniewski posted a 9.512-second run at 76.88 mph on a 9.40 dial.
