2012 IHRA event class structure

Tuesday, 17 January 2012

With a brand new season almost upon us and a few changes on hand for the 2012 racing year, the International Hot Rod Association decided to simplify things and provide a quick and easy look at what classes will be run at each event during the year.

In 2012 the IHRA will be combining its Summit Pro-Am series with the Nitro Jam series at select events during the season providing sportsman racers two divisional races in one weekend with a Summit Tournament of Champions qualifier all run in conjunction with the Nitro Jam professional show. These races will be in addition to the regular Summit Pro-Am schedule that kicks off in February and runs through September.

The 2012 IHRA season will also include three huge Summit Sportsman Spectacular events at Maryland International Raceway, San Antonio Raceway and Memphis International Raceway during the year. These events are sportsman only national events open to all racers with either an IHRA or NHRA license with larger payouts, national event contingency, a special edition Ironman and more on the line. Debuting in 2011, these special races created quite a bit of buzz and provided some of the biggest and best races of the entire year.

The thrilling season will wrap up at the IHRA World Finals at Memphis International Raceway in October with the final Summit Sportsman Spectacular just prior to the Summit Tournament of Champions and Summit SuperSeries championship races.

To find out what is running, where and when, check out this quick and easy guide below for a complete lineup. Good luck to all competitors and we look forward to seeing you at the races!
