Smith, Sinclair Lead List of IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering Winners at Union County Dragway

UNION, S.C. — As summer temperatures heated up, so did the action Saturday and Sunday at the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering at Union County Dragway.

Six drivers from the Top, Mod and Junior Dragster classes went home winners of the two-day event at the South Carolina facility.

In a battle of Rock Hill, S.C., drivers, Marshall Smith Jr. drove his dark blue Chevy Malibu to the victory over Terry Petrie’s yellow dragster in Saturday’s Top (Box) final. He earned $1,500 and an IHRA Ironman trophy for his efforts.Marshall Smith 2

Morgan Carroll won on a holeshot in the Mod (No Box) final. His .006 reaction time paired with a 6.27-second run at 106.25 mph on a 6.26 dial-in bested runner-up Robbie Philbeck, who had a 6.815-second pass at 106.02 mph on a 6.75 dial-in.

In the Junior Dragster final, Jimmie Guillen went down the track in 11.295 seconds at 55.88 mph on a 11.25 dial-in. Runner-up Madison Linton had the better reaction time, but barely missed the 8.51 dial-in with a 8.509-second pass at 76.71 mph.

Danny Sinclair from Chester, S.C., drove his sleek metallic blue dragster to Sunday’s win in the Top class. He was able to overcome a solid run by runner-up Ed Pauley, who posted a .010 reaction time.

A tightly contested Mod final saw Edward Freeman drive his purple Nova SS to the win. He had a package of a 6.517-second run at 101.38 mph on a 6.50 dial-in with a .014 reaction time. David Hoyt came up just short despite a .006 reaction time and a run of 8.108 seconds at 82.65 mph on an 8.10 dial-in.

Adam Agee was the Junior Dragster winner on Sunday with his 7.992-second pass at 81.31 mph on a 7.95 dial-in after a .095 reaction time. Kyle Chapman ended up second, going down the drag strip in 8.015 seconds at 78.43 mph.Adam Agee copy

The next IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Hagerty and Moser Engineering race is scheduled Saturday, July 10 just north of Nashville at Music City Raceway.
