Friday, 07 June 2013

Jets and Funny Cars and wheelstanders, oh my!

For the first time in the decade-long existence of the extremely popular Thunder Jam series, the “most exciting night in motorsports” will make its debut at the famed Yellowstone Dragstrip in Montana with a show fans and racers alike will be talking about for months to come on Saturday, June 29 at 7 p.m.

From the earth-shattering power of the 30,000 horsepower Super Shockwave jet-powered ’57 Chevy to the ear-piercing, 200 mph showdown of the stars of the Rocky Mountain Nostalgia Funny Car circuit, jet dragsters, wheelstanders and more, the Thunder Jam at Yellowstone Dragstrip is shaping up to be one of the biggest shows in the history of the track.

“From the fans to the facility, Yellowstone is a track we have been wanting to go to for years and now we finally have the opportunity to bring our unique, family-friendly drag racing thrill show to the fans of Montana,” said Jim Marchyshyn, Thunder Jam Operations Manager. “If you are looking for a fun night of extremely loud, extremely exciting and extremely over-the-top action, this is one event you won’t want to miss.”

Keeping with the tradition of family-driven entertainment, Thunder Jam will once again provide an incredible show for the lowest price in the sport. Kid’s tickets are just $10 and adult tickets are just $25. And, as always, parking and an all-access pass to the ThunderFest pit party is free with admission.

Highlighting the 2013 Thunder Jam debut at Yellowstone will be one of the fastest, most exciting race vehicles ever built – the 30,000 horsepower Super Shockwave jet truck. This heavily modified ’57 Chevy features twin jet engines on the bed its awesome six-wheeled frame and can reach speeds in excess of 300 mph all while blasting flames nearly 20 feet into the air.

The Super Shockwave will be accompanied by an equally impressive 10,000 horsepower jet dragster and the world famous “Jelly Belly” wheelstander driven by Ed Jones. Making 200 mph passes on only its rear wheels, you can literally smell the action as this stagecoach roars by with Jelly Bean scented fuel filling the air.

Bringing the night to a close will be an assortment of some of the most unique race vehicles ever built as the stars of the Rocky Mountain Nostalgia Funny Car class, including Cal Tebb, Ron Sekura, Norm Kowich and more rumble down the Yellowstone strip with side-by-side 200 mph Funny Car battles.

Wrapping up the night will be the finals of the IHRA Ironman Classic as Montana’s best sportsman competitors battle it out for the sport’s ultimate prize – an IHRA Ironman trophy.

In addition to the on-track action, fans will also be able to take part in the AMSOIL Pit Party beginning at 5:30 p.m. The AMSOIL Pit Party features driver autographs including an opportunity to meet the stars of Thunder Jam and tour the pits.

Tickets for the June 29 event are just $25 for adults and $10 for children (12 and under). Tickets are available at the track gate day of show. Showtime is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
