Monster trucks, jets and altereds, oh my!

This Saturday, June 16 the world’s most exciting motorsports thrill show travels to Piedmont Dragway as Thunder Jam hits the strip with one night of over-the-top entertainment featuring the North Carolina debut of the Grave Digger vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle monster truck drag race, the world famous “Spirit of Alabama” jet dragster, fuel altereds and more all taking place this Saturday, June 16.

The AMSOIL Pit Party will get underway at 5:30 p.m. with Thunder Jam set to begin at 7 p.m.

“This is one night North Carolina fans will never forget,” said Jim Marchyshyn, Thunder Jam Operations Manager. “From the incredible area debut of the monster truck drag race featuring the iconic Grave Digger, to a 300 mile-per-hour jet dragster and the only fuel altered race on the Thunder Jam schedule, this is one event people will be talking about for weeks to come.”

Easily the “biggest” main event in Thunder Jam history, the main attraction at the Piedmont Thunder Jam will be the North Carolina debut of the monster truck showdown between the Grave Digger monster truck driven by Monster Jam superstar Randy Brown and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle piloted by Joey Parnell. Not only will these two incredible machines go head-to-head, but North Carolina fans will also see them jump cars and even race a 300 mph jet dragster all on tires bigger than most full-size racecars.

The 1950 style Chevrolet truck known as Grave Digger has become an icon of the sport with its ghoulish green and black paint job and menacing red headlights and has made a name for itself with its go-or-go-home style of racing. Weighing in at nearly 12,000 pounds and powered by a 575 cubic inch Chevy Big Block engine, Grave Digger has garnered four Monster Jam Points Championships, one Freestyle Championship and two Monster Jam World Racing Championships while under the direction of a handful of drivers.

At Piedmont Dragway Grave Digger will be in the care of former Monster Jam World Champion Randy Brown as he goes head-to-head against Joey Parnell in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and Joe Zaccaro in the “Spirit of Alabama” jet-powered dragster.

Capable of speeds of over 300 mph with a huge fire and smoke show to boot, the Spirit of Alabama will test its might in a handicap race against a truck 10 times its size using its 10,000 horsepower Pratt and Whitney jet engine to power it to the finish line.

Also in action at the Piedmont Thunder Jam will be a pair of blown alcohol Fuel Altereds known as “Extreme Pursuit” and “My Favorite Charity”. The two machines produce monster burnouts and will roar down the track in a side-by-side 200+ mph showdown between two of the wildest looking rides around. With a massive supercharged engine hanging out in the wind, headers resting just inches from the pavement and a gargantuan wing protruding from atop the roll cage, these machines promise to provide some of the best racing of the year.

Finally, race fans will also get to see over $1 million worth of the best wildest and fastest race cars around in the IHRA Ironman Classic featuring many of the areas top motorsports talents.

In addition to all the on-track action, fans will also be able to take part in the AMSOIL Pit Party right before the start of the show. The AMSOIL Pit Party features driver autographs including an opportunity to meet Monster Jam stars Randy Brown and Joey Parnell, get up close and personal with Grave Digger, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and all of the stars of Thunder Jam and an opportunity to win cool prizes and tour the pits all beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets for the June 16 event are just $20 for adults and $10 for children (12 and under).Tickets are available day of show at the gate and, as always, parking and access to the AMSOIL Pit Party is free with admission.
