Grave Digger crushes, jumps and races for the first time ever at Lakeview Resorts Thunder Jam in Gimli

Thursday, 21 June 2012

Following an impressive debut last season that is still be talked about today, Thunder Jam is thrilled to return to Interlake Dragway in Gimli, Manitoba on Saturday, July 14 with a full slate of exciting action at the Power 97 Thunder Jam presented by Lakeview Resorts.

Last year’s Thunder Jam debut at the Gimli track brought out huge numbers to see Grave Digger piloted by Monster Jam superstar Randy Brown and this year fans can expect another thrilling show once again starring Brown and Grave Digger as this year he takes on an opponent of equal size – the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle monster truck driven by Joey Parnell.

This year, however, Grave Digger won’t only be racing cars down the track – he will be jumping them! That is right, for the 30th anniversary of Grave Digger the team is pulling out all of the stops and will put on a show like never before as he races, spins and jumps to fame all in front of the Canadian crowd.

And that is only the beginning.

In addition to the battle of the monster trucks, the July 14 Gimli Thunder Jam will also feature the 3,200 horsepower Top Alcohol Funny Car driven by Winnipeg’s own burnout king Scott McVey, an incredible Pro Mod clash between former IHRA World Champion and Manitoba resident Kenny Lang as he takes on Frank Safanovas and the famous Manitoba Canola Oil Jet Funny Car all on one incredible night on Saturday, July 14 at 7 p.m.

“We are pulling out all of the stops for this one,” said Jim Marchyshyn, Thunder Jam Operations Manager. “Canadian fans are known as some of the most loyal fans of them all and after last year’s great debut, we knew we had to come back up here with a show that is bigger and better than before. And with the battle of the monster trucks, jets, funny cars and Pro Mods, you simply won’t find a more exciting race anywhere.

“And with a great partner in Lakeview Resorts, we know this year’s show will leave fans talking for a long time. We just can’t wait to get up there and enjoy our time in a quality hotel like Lakeview.”

To add to the excitement, spectators will also get a chance to be up close to the feature stars and their cars at the AMSOIL Pit Party. The entire pit area will be open so that you can check out all of the cars and get an autograph from the Monster Jam stars.

The AMSOIL Pit Party will get underway at 5:30 p.m. with Thunder Jam set to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are only $10 for kids 12 and under and adults are $25.

Easily the “biggest” main event in Thunder Jam history, the main attraction at the Power 97 Thunder Jam presented by Lakeview Resorts will be the Manitoba debut of the monster truck showdown between the Grave Digger monster truck driven by Monster Jam superstar Randy Brown and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle piloted by Joey Parnell.

The 1950 style Chevrolet truck known as Grave Digger has become an icon of the sport with its ghoulish green and black paint job and menacing red headlights and has made a name for itself with its go-or-go-home style of racing. Weighing in at nearly 12,000 pounds and powered by a 575 cubic inch Chevy Big Block engine, Grave Digger has garnered four Monster Jam Points Championships, one Freestyle Championship and two Monster Jam World Racing Championships while under the direction of a handful of drivers.

And at Interlake Dragway Brown will not only race, he will jump cars and put on a show like never before. And while Grave Digger is busy with that, Parnell and the TMNT will battle the Manitoba Canola Oil Jet Funny Car in the world’s first monster truck versus jet funny car showdown.
