Summit SuperSeries

Summit Racing Equipment, the Official Mail Order Company of IHRA, sponsors a revolutionary three-part series for the IHRA ET bracket racer at the local level.  Providing the base for the Summit SuperSeries are the more than 80 IHRA member tracks.

1)    Summit SuperSeries World Championship

In 2009, the Summit SuperSeries is back with the same format that caught the attention of all IHRA member track competitors in 2008. Each participating track’s champion will race champions from other tracks to determine the “Elite 8” field of Box and No Box finalists for the World Championship race.

Each track champion will square off at the Summit Team Finals in their respective division. The champion of the race will earn their way into the eight-car field of finalists who will again race for the Summit World Championship during the IHRA World Finals in Rockingham, North Carolina, on October 22-25, 2009. The World Championship race will take place during Sunday’s final professional eliminations, and will be filmed by Speed Channel and seen when the IHRA World Finals airs in the fall.

There have also been provisions made for “geographically challenged” racers to ensure that no one is excluded from the program. This program will crown a true World Champion from the ranks of the local grassroots racers at the more than 80 IHRA member tracks

All Summit SuperSeries track champions who cannot attend a Summit Team Finals because of distance are eligible for an end-of-the-year lottery.  One lucky winner will be drawn at the end of the program from any category and will win the right to join the “Elite 8.” All qualified entries will receive $1,000.00 tow money from Summit. All entries must tech in at event to receive tow money.  The race for the Summit World Championship will be run on a quarter-mile format.  The “Elite 8” will be run on a ladder, where the division 1 champion runs the division 9 champion, the division 2 East champion runs the division 2 West champion, the division 3 champion runs the division 5 champion and the division 4 champion runs the lotto winner.  If a bike or sled qualifies, they will run against cars. Payout will be; Winner $10,000.00, Runner-Up $7,000.00, Semi-finals $2,000.00, Quarter-finals $1,000.00 for Box and No Box classes.  Summit will also pay cash prizes to the first two places at each track.

 2)  Summit Team Finals

The purpose of the IHRA Summit Team Finals is to promote IHRA Drag Racing at member tracks on a local level and reward attendance with national recognition and competition.  Each participating track will keep a points system to determine which drivers will represent their track.  Each racer must be entered in their home track’s points program. The top five (5) point finishers in 2008 IHRA or NHRA World Championship standings are not eligible. Each Team Championship will be determined by a points system with one (1) point being awarded to the winner of each round.

Competitors also claim individual class championships, prizes and monies by racing against their peers in their perspective classes.  Racers will eliminate down until a Summit Team Finals Champion is determined.  Winners receive an IHRA Ironman, Silver Card, and monetary prizes.

3)  Summit Contingency Program

This program, valued at more than $5,000,000, rewards local sportsman competitors on a weekly basis at participating tracks at no cost to the track or racer.  The IHRA Contingency Program is an incentive based sales tool used by sponsors to expose their ‘brand’ to thousands of fans and competitors, and by rewarding the racers for running their products and decals, they give thousand of consumers an additional reason to purchase your service or merchandise.  By participating in the Summit SuperSeries, winners and runners-up of sportsman classes are paid twice a year for contingency by their local track.  Besides running the product, the competitors are also required to run the sponsor’s decals on both sides of the vehicle.
