Summit SuperSeries
Summit Racing Equipment, the Official Mail Order Company of IHRA, sponsors a revolutionary two-part series for IHRA E.T. bracket racers at the local level. Providing the base for the Summit SuperSeries are more than 80 IHRA member tracks.
In 2010, the Summit SuperSeries is back with the format that caught the attention of all IHRA member track competitors in 2009. Each participating track’s champion will race champions from other tracks to determine the “Final 8” field of Box and No Box finalists for the season-ending World Championship race at Virginia Motorsports Park.
Each track champion will square-off at the Summit Team Finals in their respective division. The champion of the race will earn his or her way into the eight-car field of finalists who will again race for the Summit SuperSeries World Championship during the IHRA World Finals Nitro Jam the weekend of October 15-16, 2010. The World Championship race will take place during Saturday’s final professional eliminations, and will be filmed by Speed Channel and broadcast when the IHRA World Finals Nitro Jam airs in the fall.
There have also been provisions made for “geographically challenged” racers to ensure that no one is excluded from the program. This program will crown a true World Champion from the ranks of the local grassroots racers at more than 80 IHRA member tracks. There are also provisions in place for competitors whose team finals may fall after the World Finals Nitro Jam.
All Summit SuperSeries track champions who cannot attend a Summit Team Finals because of distance are eligible for an end-of-the-year lottery. One lucky winner will be drawn at the end of the program from any category and will win the right to join the “Final 8.” All qualified entries will receive $1,000 tow money from Summit Racing Equipment. All entries must tech in at the event to receive tow money. The race for the Summit World Championship will be run on a quarter-mile format. The “Final 8” will be run on a ladder, where the division 1 champion runs the division 9 champion, the division 2 East champion runs the division 2 West champion, the division 3 champion runs the division 5 champion and the division 4 champion runs the lotto winner. If a bike or sled qualifies, they will run against cars. Payouts will be: winner $10,000, runner-Up $7,000, semifinalists $2,000, quarterfinalists $1,000 for Box and No Box classes. Summit Racing Equipment will also award $1000 to each participating track to be divided amongst the racers as the track sees fit.
Summit Team Finals
The purpose of the IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Team Finals program is to promote IHRA drag racing at member tracks on a local level and reward attendance with national recognition and competition. Each participating track will keep a points system to determine which drivers will represent their track. Each racer must be entered in their home track’s points program. The top five (5) point finishers in 2009 IHRA or NHRA World Championship standings are not eligible. Each Team Championship will be determined by a points system with one (1) point being awarded to the winner of each round.
Competitors also claim individual class championships, prizes and monies by racing against their peers in their respective classes. Racers will eliminate down until a Summit Team Finals champion is determined. Winners receive an IHRA Ironman, Silver Card, and monetary prizes.
