Street Racing Takes Over NASCAR Track!
What street racer or sportsman drag racer wouldn’t take the opportunity to race their car down the pit road of a Nascar Circle track? What car show competitor wouldn’t love to park their ride in the prestigious pit garages for display? What motorsport fan wouldn’t love to see Dick Rossberg’s 300mph Thriller-Viper Jet Powered Dragster rocket down the track?
Anyone within earshot of Atlanta Motor Speedway knew the Kumho Street Warriorz series was rolling into town on July 20th for a party-driven takeover. What no one knew was that the party would only grow bigger due to the rain delays.
The clouds kept lingering over AMS, but only fanned the flames of anticipation the crowds were burning with. The crowds waited, patiently, as the forecast called for clearing skies, and were rewarded with some of the most intense racing action the South has ever seen. The raw nature of arm-drop starts and grudge racing format drew a new crowd to the venue, giving everyone an opportunity to give drag racing a shot. The United States Auto Sound Competition International judged car show and Outlaw SPL pro stereo competition drew the hottest cars in every genre from old-school muscle to new bred imports.
Atlanta Motor Speedway is one of the most prestigious stops on the NASCAR circuit. Friday July 20th things were a little different as the Kumho Street Warriorz took over for an evening of straight-track action.
“This is kind of like a baseball fan getting to play a pickup game at Yankee Stadium, you will be able to race your car at Atlanta Motor Speedway,” Street Warriorz director Jon O’Neal said. “Street Warriorz is a great event because everyone, from the serious street racing enthusiast to guys and gals who cruise around on the weekend, get the chance to line up and see what they can do on a safe, sanctioned race track in a controlled environment. We take the street racing off the street and throw in a big party while we’re at it.”
That big party O’Neal mentioned takes place on the stage, which eventually becomes the hot gathering place at each Street Warriorz event. The reason? The stage is where the action is. From the live DJ spinning the newest, latest hip-hop cuts to the ladies strutting their stuff in the “Barely Legal” bikini contest, the on-stage activities always leave the crowd in a frenzy.
“The stage is where everything happens,” O’Neal said. “The ladies always put on a great show and we have some other surprises for everyone who comes out to see us in Atlanta.”
Away from the stage the on-track action will be fast and furious. Grudge racing and a smoky burnout contest will provide all the adrenaline you could want behind the wheel, while USACI will be on hand to judge the “Show and Shine” car show. Outlaw SPL will be there to keep tabs on the “Loudest Stereo” contest.
Street Warriorz is not hard on the wallet. For only $15 you can race your car and join the party. An extra $5 will get you in the car show and loudest stereo contest.
