South Carolina got it’s second taste of the Kumho Street Warriorz series on Saturday March 24th and responded by turning some of the hottest street-racing action Low Country Dragway has ever seen. With a strong contingent of show vehicles and SPL competitors, the night turned into a hotbed for trick vehicles, but it was those who came to party that brought back the energy from 2006.

The Street Racers in SC have been dying for another taste of the Street Warriorz since ’06, and with Kumho, Universal Technical Institute, Torco The Army, Redline Revolution and the Outlaw Roadshow backing the event, Saturday night was a dream come true.

Unfortunately for the many fans of Low Country’s underground charm, the venue is deciding to close down and move to where it has a little more space to breathe. As a testament to the support and encouragement Low Country likes to provide for it’s racers, it scheduled the Kumho Street Warriorz season as the last special event at the track before it transfers the points and programs over.

“It’s going to be sad to see this track shut down, we have put a lot of time and effort into it,” Tony Deaton, co-owner and track operator said. “But what better way to bring a close to such a great place than with the biggest party we can throw?”

The line started to build around 3pm as the energy started building. The gates were opened early ease the traffic flow, and the racers kept rolling in all night long. Gary Fore’s trailor became one of the hotspots to hang while he and his crew were working on the Super Cobra Jet jet-powered funny car. Gary is a master at keeping his fans happy both in the pits and while he going 267mph in the 1/8 mile!

The Army was on hand showing off some of the coolest weapon-simulation games in the world. Their display canopy put participants in charge of a laser firing m-16 and in front of a simulated combat situation. It, along with a t-shirt cannon were two of the biggest hits on the Street Warriorz midway.

“The event drew a very diverse crowd, most of whom are people we would consider to be in our prime market,” Captain Lee Kemp said. “Our goal is to help every person succeed in whatever it is they choose to do in life, whether it be the Army or something totally different. We just want the opportunity to share our Army story and show people how the Army can help them achieve their goals in life.

With the 2006 event holding the record attendance numbers for the track, there were high expectations for 2007. The numbers didn’t disappoint as an overabundance of racers flooded through the gates. The track staff was quick to speed up the lane process to keep the flow moving and was able to run twice as many racers down the track as it’s used to.

The staff at Low Country Dragway is one of the reasons the locals return week after week. Their compassion, understanding of drag racing and pure enthusiasm are what has kept the events growing throughout the years. >>>Event Photos
