Forecast forces postponement of IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular at Keystone Raceway Park

Tuesday, 15 May 2018
WEST PALM BEACH- Fla.- Due to the torrential rains and an inclement weather forecast for this weekend, the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and Keystone Raceway Park have postponed the May 18-20 IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular event until the weekend of June 22-24 date, the sanctioning body announced today.
The New Alexandria area, has endured many days of heavy rain with thunderstorms, and this week’s forecast calls for more of the same for several more days leading up to and including the weekend. In addition, flooding is expected throughout the week.

“It has rained hard enough and long enough that the pits are literally under water within the facility,” Greg Miller, Keystone Raceway Park manager said. “Inviting the racers out to a literal mud fest does not sound like fun.”

Racers who pre-entered for the event should keep their receipts on hand as pre-entries will be honored at the rescheduled date.

"Greg is not afraid to be proactive in making these decisions based on the conditions at the facility and what can be expected in the next several days" IHRA division director Jon O’Neal said. "With the rain the area is expecting this week and through the weekend along with the flooding conditions they’ve already experienced, we are making this call as early as possible. We look forward to running this race weekend when we are able to provide the best experience possible for our competitors."

The IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular will resume with a double-event weekend on Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-27 at the iconic Darlington Dragway in Hartsville, S.C.
