IHRA Announces 2002 Television Schedule On TNN
"Strongest television Package in IHRA History": President Bill Bader
March 15, 2002

Norwalk, Ohio – The International Hot Rod Association announced television coverage of their 2002 National Event schedule begins Saturday, April 13, 2002 on TNN, The National Network.

The new IHRA national event television package on TNN will be unified and broadcast on one network with the potential to reach over 84 million households in the United States and Canada. All five IHRA professional classes will be presented over two one-hour programs, which air over consecutive weekends. Top Fuel and Pro Modified are featured the first show, Screamin’ Eagle Nitro Harley-Davidson, Funny Car and Pro Stock the second.

"This is the strongest television package in the history of IHRA," stated President Bill Bader. " In 2002, IHRA national events will be broadcast in a timely fashion, for the first time airing shortly after the conclusion of the race.

"TNN has chosen to showcase IHRA Drag Racing in their highly-rated Saturday afternoon motorsports block, which also airs "Horsepower TV", "Monster Jam" and other forms of racing," added Bader. "We anticipate the Saturday motorsports block on TNN will allow us to expose IHRA to new and casual viewers. Our goal, along with our television production partner, MSW, is to create new drag racing fans and viewers."

Bader added the strong TNN presence in Canada is an integral ingredient of the IHRA broadcast package. Over the past three years, IHRA has invested heavily in Canadian Drag Racing and promotes the only two national drag racing events in the country. IHRA is continues to expand into the Western Provinces and recently took over the sanctioning of Budweiser Motorsports Park, Edmonton, Alberta.

"IHRA has made an ongoing commitment to become the drag racing sanctioning body of record in Canada; TNN coverage, promotion and exposure is an important part of the package."

TNN has committed to a weekly promotional schedule of ongoing promotional spots leading up to each IHRA program.

The 2002 IHRA Drag Racing Schedule on TNN follows.

IHRA To Expand Race Coverage On TNN; Selects MSW Productions As Production Partner
January 23, 2002

Norwalk, Ohio - IHRA President Bill Bader announced TNN as their broadcast partner for IHRA Summit Drag Racing events in 2002.

"I'm pleased TNN continues as our television partner and will expand their coverage," said Bader. "Their commitment to IHRA is a direct result of our growth, increasing television ratings and audience profile. This is the best television package in IHRA's history."

The announcement extends the relationship with TNN to 3 years. TNN will air 25 hours of IHRA programming, a 100% increase over 2001. Additional IHRA coverage will appear on Fox Sports Net during a weekly segment on "Motor Sports Weekly," an eight- time EMMY award winning magazine-formatted motorsports program. "Motor Sports Weekly" also airs in syndication on Fox broadcast stations in 60 markets across the United States.

Bader also announced IHRA has chosen St. Louis based MSW Television Productions and Technisonic Studios as their television production partner. In addition to motorsports, the MSW team has been responsible for the production of national sports events for Bud Sports, the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues.

"Our new partnership with TNN and MSW TV Productions allows IHRA to deliver our brand of drag racing on a more timely basis to fans, sponsors and advertisers," stated Bader. "The time lag to get our product to broadcast date has been greatly reduced. Our shows will air within two weeks following the completion of each event."

In 2001, IHRA television ratings increased 94%. Additional coverage on Fox Sports Net as well as syndicated coverage on "Motor Sports Weekly" allows IHRA to potentially reach an additional 70 million households.

"In 2002, IHRA will reach more households and fans than at any other time in our history," added Bader. "By airing 25 hours of IHRA original programming, TNN is doubling their commitment to help grow our sport. TNN has also committed to promote the Summit Drag Racing Series with an expanded and meaningful schedule of on-air promotion."

Bader adds, "The expanded coverage on Fox Sports Net from "Motor Sports Weekly" exposes IHRA to many new viewers and provides an opportunity to further brand IHRA and develop world-class stars."

MSW President and Executive Producer Jeff Fortune promises a new look for IHRA on television. Fortune and Assistant Producer/Contributing Editor Bob Margolis will work closely with IHRA to develop new features.

"Our objective is to turn sports fans into IHRA drag racing fans," stated Fortune. "We will utilize our state of the art, digital production facility at the track to create new fans. We will look beyond action on the racetrack to show more of the personality of IHRA- both the drivers and fans as well as showing more of what goes into the event, both on and off the track.

"IHRA drag racing is "competitive entertainment" and, to compete with the NBA, the NHL and major league baseball as well as other motorsports, we have to catch viewers and hold their attention immediately. To accomplish this, we're starting with a clean sheet of paper."
