(W) Jason Collins (Cougar) 0.455 6.632 210.05
(L) Gary Henry (Cavalier) 0.472 6.663 207.82
This was the first meeting of the year for Henry and Collins. Collins took the early lead and then did a good job of driving a loose race car to the stripe. MOV: 0.0483 seconds (approximately 15 feet). Collins will have lane choice against Baker in the semifinals.
(W) Brian Gahm (NAPA Tools & Equip. Mustang) 0.453 6.619 209.01
(L) Frank Gugliotta (Yoak Racing Probe) 0.458 6.649 207.85
These two had not met this season, Gugliotta only making the field twice prior to this event and not getting past the first round in either race. He made a good race of it, leaving right with Gahm and pacing him most of the way down the track. Gahm won, but Gugliotta has nothing to be ashamed of for this effort. Gahm's margins: 60ft(0.018), 330 ft(0.018), 660ft(0.022), 1,000ft(0.028). MOV: 0.0357 seconds (approximately 11 feet). Gahm will have l ane choice against Dobbins in the semifinals.

Results for Elimination Round 3

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 3 eliminations in Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Seventh annual CARQUEST Auto Parts World Finals:

W/L Driver RT ET Speed

(W) Carl Baker (Summit Racing Cougar) 0.471 6.630 208.20
(L) Jason Collins (Cougar) 0.458 7.477 134.82
3:59 PM Oops, a recheck of the points showed that Baker needed to go to the finals to move into second place in the points, his second-round win leaving Baker still nine points behind John Montecalvo.

He and Collins met once earlier this year, Baker winning that one, in the first round at Shreveport. This was a close race at the start, but Collins' car got severely out of shape in the middle of the run and Baker is now really second in the points.
(W) Jeff Dobbins (Probe) 0.453 6.618 209.82
(L) Brian Gahm (NAPA Tools & Equip. Mustang) 0.479 6.620 208.36
Gahm was 2-1 against Dobbins in prior races this year, defeating Dobbins in the final round at Grand Bend and the semifinals at Epping. On the other hand, Dobbins handed Gahm his only first-round loss of the season, at Toronto. This was a very close drag race, Dobbins with the starting line advantage and Gahm making up most of it by the 60-foot timer. But Dobbins was strong enough to extend that small edge slightly enroute to an upset victory. Dobbins' margins: 60ft(0.010), 330ft(0.013), 660ft(0.020), 1,000ft(0.023). MOV: 0.0286 seconds (approximately 9 feet). Dobbins will have lane choice against Baker in the finals.

Results for Final Round

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 4 eliminations in Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Stock at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Seventh annual CARQUEST Auto Parts World Finals:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Carl Baker (Summit Racing Cougar) 0.441 6.603 208.01
 (L) Jeff Dobbins (Probe) 0.443 6.622 210.80
5:53 PM It's 73 degrees, 63 percent relative humidity, the barometer 29.97 and steady, under an increasing overcast.

Baker and Dobbins have raced each other twice in earlier races this year, Dobbins winning in the final round at Virginia and Baker winning in the first round at Martin. This was a good old-fashioned drag race, the two leaving together. Baker made a hard move early, then they were welded together the rest of the way down the track. Baker's incremental margins: 60ft(0.027), 330 ft(0.036), 660ft(0.039), 1,000ft(0.032). MOV: 0.0213 seconds (approximately 7 feet).
