track. Neither driver made the field.
Left Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.375/226.73, Now #18
Best prior run: 6.332/228.77, Was #18
Right Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 6.243/221.92, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.269/222.77, Was #8
Stott was bumped from the field a few pairs earlier. He needed to beat the
bump time of 6.308 seconds to get back into the field. He had a clean run but was
43 thousandths of a second too slow to make the field. Critchley had a good run
that moved him up three spots in the order.
Left Lane: Dwayne White Runs 9.114/96.01, Now #44
Best prior run: 6.668/203.40, Was #44
Right Lane: Mike Stawicki Runs 6.605/211.49, Now #42
Best prior run: 6.602/213.16, Was #42
White veered toward the center line as he launched. He corrected, then veered
back again and crossed over at 600 feet. Stawicki had a clean run but was not quick
enough to make the field.
Left Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.229/225.18, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.274/223.80, Was #9
Right Lane: Charles Carpenter Runs 6.360/220.80, Now #23
Best prior run: 6.352/222.47, Was #23
Hahn a nice looking clean run that was right down the middle to move up five
spots in the order and into the top half of the field for now. Carpenter's run
looked clean but did not make the field.
Left Lane: Keith Baker Runs 6.575/187.50, Now #31
Best prior run: 6.402/216.76, Was #31
Right Lane: Steve Salvadore Runs 6.546/216.31, Now #41
Best prior run: 6.645/212.06, Was #43
Salvadore's car was all over the track. Baker's car stayed straighter but
neither was quick enough to make the field.
Left Lane: Annette Summer Runs 6.329/219.51, Now #18
Best prior run: 6.347/220.22, Was #20
Right Lane: Todd Tutterow Runs 6.369/215.55, Now #27
Best prior run: 6.365/215.37, Was #27
Both these drivers needed to beat the bump time of 6.308 seconds to make the
field. Summer had a clean run, right down the middle that was good enough to move
her up to the 18th position for now, but not good enough to make her the second
woman to qualify for a Pro Mod field and the first woman since 1990.
Left Lane: Roy Wasko Runs 6.330/216.69, Now #19
Best prior run: 6.359/216.69, Was #26
Right Lane: David Roemer Runs 6.338/220.62, Now #22
Best prior run: 6.426/217.77, Was #35
Both runs looked clean but neither driver had enough to make the show.
Left Lane: Brian Daniels Runs 6.342/219.26, Now #23
Best prior run: 6.353/217.70, Was #26
Right Lane: Ken Regenthal Runs 6.836/201.61, Now #38
Best prior run: 6.436/215.68, Was #38
Another pair of clean runs that were not good enough to make this field. As
of now, there are only two drivers left in the field of 16 who ran slower than a
6.299 second elapsed time.
Left Lane: Chip King Runs 6.354/220.08, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.248/225.07, Was #7
Right Lane: Ronnie Hood Runs 6.886/220.48, Now #46
No Prior Run
Hood had not recorded a qualifying time yet this weekend, so everything
depended on this run. King was already in the top of the field. When Hood and King
finished this run, Hood was still outside the field and going home early and King
had not moved in the order.
Left Lane: Steve Vick Runs 10.422/103.22, Now #50
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 13.868/76.57, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.166/227.54, Was #2
Both drivers spun the tires and shut down early. Vick did not make the field
and will be going home early this weekend.
Left Lane: Bobby Grubb Runs 8.316/156.70, Now #49
Best prior run: 7.597/173.49, Was #49
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.130/228.77, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.164/228.61, Was #1
Janis was already the number one qualifier before this run, but he lowered
his best time by 34 thousandths of a second with a great run. Grubb shook the tires
and backed off this run.
Left Lane: Dale Brinsfield Runs 6.338/218.62, Now #23
Best prior run: 0.000/173.49, Was #97
Brinsfield was all over the track to the right of the groove. Even with a
6.338 second ET, he was not able to break into this field.
Left Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 6.268/222.03, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.308/222.25, Was #16
Patterson staged for this run in the 16th spot and facing a first round
matchup against Mike Janis. He had a really nice run this time to move out of the
16th spot and up to number 10. So instead of facing Janis, Patterson will race Chip
King in round number one. This ended up being the quickest Pro Mod field ever with
the slowest elapsed time in the field being Paul Athey's 6.303 second run. Athey is
the only qualifier who had an ET slower than 6.294 seconds.

Results for Elimination Round 1
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Mopar
Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Seventh annual CARQUEST
Auto Parts World Finals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Shannon Jenkins ('68 Camaro) 0.484 6.251 222.44
(L) Ed Hoover (Trussel Constr. '63 Corvette) 0.516 9.088 118.50
1:02 PM - The air temperature was 72 degrees at 73 percent humidity under
overcast skies. The barometric pressure was 30.03 and steady. Jenkins clinched the
championship yesterday when he qualified for the field. He and Hoover have met
twice this season with Jenkins winning both times. Hoover has two wins this year,
with final round victories over Harold Martin at Shreveport and Mitch Stott at
Grand Bend. He lost to Jenkins in the final round at Leicester. This time, Hoover
got really loose at the starting line and fishtailed for the first 100 feet before
he backed off. Jenkins had a clean run for an easy win.
(W) Troy Critchley (Head Hunter '53 Corvette) 0.535 6.342 220.69
(L) Billy Harper ('00 Viper) 0.397(R) 14.393 57.98
Critchley beat Harper in the first round at Norwalk in August. That's the
only time these two have meet in eliminations this season. Harper left too soon
and lit the red light. As he left the starting line, he shook the tires and veered
toward the wall. Critchley had a clean, quick run even though he already had the
win.
(W) Mike Janis (Jan-Cen Engines '63 Corvette) 0.540 6.248 226.13
(L) Paul Athey (Mohegan Sun '63 Corvette) 0.448 8.766 97.65
Janis and Athey had not raced each other this season before this round of
eliminations. Janis had a final round win against Al Billes at Cordova in his only
final round appearance of the year. Athey qualified for seven of the first 11 races
and made it out of the first round only one time, when he lost to Ed Hoover in the
second round at Epping. Athey shook the tires coming off the starting line. He
backed off and then tried to get back into the run. When he did, he got loose at
330 feet. Janis had a strong run and won lane choice over Jenkins in the next round
by three thousandths of a second.
(W) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.452 6.274 224.85
(L) Harold Martin (AC Delco '02 Grand Am) 0.518 6.439 213.30
Stott and Martin have raced each other once before this, with Martin taking
the third round win at Shreveport. Stott has been in the finals four times this
season, losing once to Ed Hoover and once to Shannon Jenkins. His two wins of the
year came at Epping and Budds Creek and both were victories over Jenkins. Stott
shook the tires just a bit but it had little effect on this run. Martin's run
looked clean but he did not have the speed he needed to take the win.
(W) Tim McAmis (Sanders M'Sports '63 Corvette) 0.564 6.380 213.43
(L) Pat Moore (Rowe's Auto '57 Bel Air) 0.510 23.839 31.61
McAmis and Moore have not met this season before now. McAmis has been in
eliminations with two first-round wins and four losses. Moore has four first round
losses and one second round loss this year. McAmis shook the tires for about a
hundred feet and then gave up on this run and coasted the rest of the way down the
track. McAmis gave up lane choice to Critchley in the next round.
(W) Rickie Smith (Lucas Oil '01 Viper) 0.493 6.357 217.95
(L) Alan Pittman (Grave Digger '41Willys) 0.471 6.380 216.48
Pittman and Smith have not raced each other yet this year before today.
Pittman made it past the first round twice this year, losing once in the third
round at Cordova and in the second round at Grand Bend. This is the fourth race
that Smith has entered this year. He did not qualify for the race at Richmond, lost
to Jenkins in the second round here in the spring and lost to Mitch Stott in the
third round at Budds Creek. This was a close one. Pittman had the quicker start by
22 thousandths of a second but Smith was able to run him down for a close win.
Smith's margins (negative means behind on the track): 60ft(0.034), 330ft(0.039),
660ft(0.027), 1,000ft(0.013).
MOV: 0.0012 seconds (approximately 5 inches).
(W) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing '01 Corvette) 0.475 6.432 220.22
(L) Tommy Gray (Undertaker '53 Corvette) 0.580 6.410 218.87
Hahn and Gray have not met in eliminations yet this year before this round.
Hahn had one win this season and that came when he beat Al Billes at Richmond. This
is Gray's third appearance in elimination rounds this year. The other two times, he
lost to Jenkins in the third round here at Rockingham in the spring and again to
Jenkins at Budds Creek. Hahn got this one with a hole shot but gave up lane choice
to Smith in the next round.
(W) Chip King ('01 Avenger) 0.488 6.361 223.36
(L) Thomas Patterson ('63 Corvette) 0.467 9.100 127.07
This was the first time that King and Patterson have raced this year.
Patterson has one win this year and he got that with a win over Al Billes at
Toronto. King has one win and four losses in elimination rounds this year.
Patterson got very loose coming off the starting line and was all over the track
for the first 330 feet. He got sideways, corrected and got sideways again before he
got off the throttle. King gave up lane choice to Mitch Stott in round two.

(L) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing '01 Corvette) 0.445 11.037 76.34
2:40 PM - The air temperature was 75 degrees at 61 percent humidity and a
barometric pressure of 30.00 and steady. This is the first time this year that Hahn
and Smith have met each other in eliminations. Hahn had the quicker light but came
off the starting line with the tires shaking. He had to back off and just give up
on this run to end his 200 racing season. Smith had a clean run and will move on to
the semi finals.
(W) Shannon Jenkins ('68 Camaro) 0.451 6.271 222.25
(L) Mike Janis (Jan-Cen Engines '63 Corvette) 0.500 6.268 225.63
Janis and Jenkins met once before this year, when Jenkins took the win in the
second round at Martin, Michigan. Jenkins is two for two against Janis this year
after winning this race on a hole shot. Jenkins' margins: 60ft(0.055), 330
ft(0.056), 660ft(0.061), 1,000ft(0.059). Margin of victory: 0.0463 seconds

(L) Chip King ('01 Avenger) 0.492 6.320 225.03
Stott and King had not raced each other this season prior to this round. This
was a close start and it stayed close the whole way with neither driver making any
wrong move down the track. Stott's margins: 60ft(0.064), 330 ft(0.068),
660ft(0.059), 1,000ft(0.055). Margin of victory: 0.0534 seconds (approximately 18

(L) Troy Critchley (Head Hunter '53 Corvette) 0.455 6.440 220.26
This is the first meeting of the year for this pair. Critchley had the better
light but McAmis made up the difference by the 60 foot mark. Critchley made a try
at catching McAmis and closed the gap but was not able to run McAmis down. McAmis
gave up lane choice to Stott in the next round. McAmis' margins: 60ft(0.054),
330ft(0.060), 660ft(0.048), 1,000ft(0.046). Margin of victory: 0.0491 seconds
(approximately 16 feet).

(W) Rickie Smith (Lucas Oil '01 Viper) 0.466 6.349 218.72
(L) Shannon Jenkins ('68 Camaro) 0.487 16.809 55.36
4:08 PM - The air temperature was 77 degrees at 61 percent humidity with a
barometric pressure of 29.97 and steady. The skies remained overcast. The last and
only time that Jenkins and Smith raced each other this year prior to this round
came at the spring race here when Jenkins beat Smith in the second round. Jenkins
has six wins and two losses in the third round of eliminations this year. For
Smith, this is the second time this year he has made it as far as the third round
of competition. The first time came three weeks ago at Budds Creek, when he lost to
Mitch Stott.
Smith had to get by Alan Pittman and Fred Hahn to make it into
the third round. His reward: a third round faceoff against the series champion.
Smith had a clean run but he didn't really need it to get the win as Jenkins came
off the starting line and shut down.
(W) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.487 6.282 223.88
(L) Tim McAmis (Sanders M'Sports '63 Corvette) 0.508 6.348 212.76
Stott and McAmis have not raced yet this year. This is the sixth time this
year that Stott made it as far as the third round. In three of his previous five
third-rounds matches, he won and went on to the final round. This is the first time
this season that McAmis made it into the semi-final round. This was a great drag
race with the two cars running close the whole way down the first half of the
track. Stott started to pull away past the 660 foot mark and stretched his lead.
This win puts Stott in the finals for the third race in a row. He won lane choice
over Smith by one-thousandth of a second. Stott's margins: 60ft(0.023), 330
ft(0.035), 660ft(0.057), 1,000ft(0.073). Margin of victory: 0.0873 seconds
(approximately 27 feet).

Results for Final Round
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 4 eliminations
in Mopar Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Seventh annual
CARQUEST Auto Parts World Finals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.506 6.253 224.88
(L) Rickie Smith (Lucas Oil '01 Viper) 0.484 6.325 220.12
6:03 PM - The air temperature was 72 degrees, humidity 68 percent and the
barometric pressure was holding at 29.98. After starting the weekend with 52 cars,
it came down to a battle of the nitrous-powered car of Rickie Smith vs. Stott's
supercharged car. Stott came into the finals with a chance to get his third Pro Mod
win in a row, after wins at Epping and Budds Creek. This is the first time this
year that Smith has made it into the final round. The only other times he made it
into eliminations this season, he lost in the second round here in the spring and
lost in the third round at Budds Creek three weeks ago. To get to the finals, Smith
had to beat Alan Pittman, Fred Hahn and 2002 season champion Shannon
Jenkins.
Smith had a better tree and was ahead at the 330 foot mark. Both
cars were running right down the middle of the track and the supercharged engine in
Stott's car gave him the power he needed to overtake Smith between 330 and 660 feet
to take his third Pro Mod win in a row. Stott's margins (negative indicates the
that Stott was behind on the track.): 60ft(-0.015), 330 ft(-0.004), 660ft(0.010),
1,000ft(0.029). Margin of victory: 0.0507 seconds (approximately 16 feet).
