  Left Lane: Grant Flowers No Time, Now #2
 Right Lane: Mitch King Runs 11.153/75.15, Now #1

As the sun sets on "The Rock" we have the Night of Fire.  Flowers broke on the
burnout and could not get it into reverse and drove it on through the quarter mile.
King blistered the tires as soon as he hit the throttle and then raw fuel just
poured out of the headers.

  Left Lane: Donald Reed Runs 11.041/66.72, Now #1
 Right Lane: Steve Smith Runs 13.065/47.80, Now #3

Smith is dropping cylinders as soon as he hits the throttle and lifts.  Reed made it
to about 100 feet before he started smoking the hides.

  Left Lane: Paul Romine Runs 5.372/193.46, Now #2
 Right Lane: Jim Head Runs 5.322/252.47, Now #1

Both cars get it off the line and then start to lose traction, and then pedal it and
get it down the track.

  Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 4.979/278.75, Now #1
 Right Lane: Bruce Litton Runs 14.141/68.31, Now #7

Millican and Kloeber shows us why they have the big number one on the wing as they
are able to negotiate this tricky track to take the number one spot.  Litton is up
in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle.

That wraps up round one of qualifying.

Millican is up in smoke as soon as he hits the throttle, very uncharacteristic for
this team.  King with a big fireball right off the starting line and he lifts and
then stomps the throttle again with another big fireball.  He oils the track all the
way through the quarter mile the whole width of his lane.

  Left Lane: Jim Head 		Runs 10.212/76.48, Now #3;

Results for Qualifying 3

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - ROCKINGHAM-1 - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Fuel
at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Holley Spring Nationals
presented by Advance Auto Parts listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed
this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and
position in order prior to run:

  Left Lane: Donald Reed 	Runs 7.055/154.51, Now #6;
				Best prior run: 11.041/66.72, Was #8
 Right Lane: Bruce Litton 	Runs 4.877/281.60, Now #1;
				Best prior run: 4.976/277.83, Was #1

Litton launched hard with the header flames shooting way over the big rear wing and
he blast on through the quarter mile to improve on his number one spot.  Reed
dropped a bunch of cylinders right off the starting line and he lifted and then got
back on the throttle only to go back up in smoke.  He will now just have wait and
watch to see if he can hold on.

  Left Lane: Grant Flowers 	Runs 8.048/193.71, Now #7;
				Best prior run: 11.349/71.41, Was #9
 Right Lane: Steve Smith 	No Time, Now #11;
				Best prior run: 13.065/47.80, Was #11

Smith has a fuel line come off as he is getting prepared to make his burnout and
they shut him off.  Flowers had trouble getting the engine to turn over and so they
had to back the cylinders back off and restart it.  Flowers lost traction right off
the starting line and he pedaled it once then was up in smoke again.  He was on and
off the throttle at least three more times and manages to get it in the show for
now.

  Left Lane: Paul Romine 	No Time, Now #4;
				Best prior run: 5.372/193.46, Was #4
 Right Lane: Jim Head 		Runs 5.296/193.77, Now #3;
				Best prior run: 5.322/252.47, Was #3

Romine with a great looking pass with the header flames lighting up the night sky,
the only problem is he left before the tree was activate and probably wasted the
quickest pass of the weekend.  Head dropped the cylinders early in the run and never
got them to pick up, but will move into the top half of the show.

  Left Lane: Clay Millican 	Runs 4.861/219.26, Now #1;
				Best prior run: 4.979/278.75, Was #2
 Right Lane: Louie Allison 	Runs 5.158/241.28, Now #3;
				Best prior run: 9.473/96.98, Was #8

Millican launched hard and was on a great looking pass until just before 1000 feet
when it pitched off that unique Goodyear blower belt. Millican's incrementals: 60ft-0.824 sec., 330ft-2.132, 660ft-3.074/267.37mph, 1,000ft-3.931

Allison is able to get it down the track with a conservative looking pass and into
the top half of the show.

  Left Lane: Roger Dean 	Runs 5.695/211.69, Now #6;
				Best prior run: 5.404/214.11, Was #6
 Right Lane: Mitch King 	Runs 8.943/120.10, Now #9;
				Best prior run: 9.983/77.33, Was #9

Dean was able to get it down the track, but will not improve.  King fireballed the
engine right off the starting line, but kept his foot in it all the way through the
quarter mile as the car was engulfed in flames.  We have oil all the way down the
track.

  Left Lane: John Sipple Runs 18.036/58.31, Now #12; No Prior Run

Sipple pretty much repeats King's act with a fireball right off the starting line.
He pedaled it and then kept his foot in it all the way through the quarter mile
trailing fire and oil.  That wraps up Top Fuel qualifying.

Results for Elimination Round 1

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Top Fuel at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Holley Spring Nationals presented by Advance Auto Parts:

 W/L  Driver                                       RT        ET   Speed

 (W) Paul Romine (CARQUEST Auto Parts Dragster) 0.500 5.095 261.42
 (L) Jim Head (Dragster)                         0.498      8.673  89.37
They left almost at the same time and then Head blistered the tires around 150 feet off the starting line. Romine with the soft set up, but took the win light.
 (L) Louie Allison (Vista Foods Dragster) 0.000(R) (DQ)
 (L) Roger Dean (Rupert Oil Dragster) 0.000(R) (Broke)
Dean is unable to make the call and then Allison does not wait and take the tree, so he is disqualified. No winner in this race.
 (W) Bruce Litton (WIX Filters Dragster)         0.508      4.933 293.41
 (L) Donald Reed (Dragster)                      0.365(R)   9.195  80.64
Reed turned on the red light and Litton takes advantage with another great looking pass. This win will put Litton into the final as he has a bye in the semi-finals. Reed has trouble with his engine shutting off after he made the turn on the top end and there was a lot of smoke bellowing from the top end.
 (W) Clay Millican (Werner Dragster)             0.484      5.005 214.76
 (L) Grant Flowers (Dragster)                    0.669     11.421  74.10
Flowers was way late on the tree and then blistered the tires. Millican's engine going silent on the top end again today. I was informed this morning it was not the blower belt last night it was the blower drive shaft that broke. When that happened it sent the blower belt into the cock pit beating up Millican, the result was a real sore shoulder. Millican will have lane choice over Romine in the semi-finals.

Sunday

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Top Fuel at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Holley Spring Nationals presented by Advance Auto Parts:

 (W) Bruce Litton (WIX Filters Dragster)         0.507      4.882 284.75
     was unopposed
Litton with the freebie here because Allison did not take the light in the previous round, apparently Louie usually purges the clutch twice, but only did it once and then could not hold the car as he went to stage it. Litton with a picture perfect pass here straight down Broadway.
 (W) Clay Millican (Werner Dragster)             0.516      4.714 303.78
 (L) Paul Romine (CARQUEST Auto Parts Dragster) 0.484 5.132 268.12
Romine with the starting line advantage, but Millican had the difference made up right off the starting line as he blasted on through the 1320. Millican was black tracking all the way down the quarter mile and was real loose around 1000 feet. Millican with lane choice in the final.

Sunday
