Results for Qualifying 1

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - ROCKINGHAM-1 - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Sunoco Race
Fuels Pro Stock at the IHRA Drag Racing Series, 32nd annual Holley Spring Nationals
presented by Advance Auto Parts listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and
position in order following run:

Left Lane: Jeff Dobbins Runs 9.324/98.37, Now #2
Right Lane: Larry O'Brien Runs 6.690/207.18, Now #1

12:09 PM  Dobbins' car shook very hard.  O'Brien made a very nice run down the
right lane.

Left Lane: Tim Nabors Runs 21.192/43.62, Now #4
Right Lane: Wally Stroupe Runs 6.661/206.73, Now #1

Nabors' car shook so hard the chutes fell out.  Stroupe showed why the right lane
may well be the lane of choice with no apparent problems.

Left Lane: John Bartunek Runs 14.271/70.06, Now #4
Right Lane: Jerry Yeoman Runs 6.633/208.20, Now #1

Same story, hard shake in the left lane, nice run in the right.

Left Lane: Chuck DeMory Runs 12.172/85.75, Now #6
Right Lane: John Montecalvo Runs 6.582/208.78, Now #1

Ditto.

Left Lane: Chris Holbrook Runs 6.953/198.29, Now #5
Right Lane: Elijah Morton Runs 7.054/157.15, Now #6

Holbrook almost defeated the tire chatter demons in the left lane - almost.

Left Lane: Harold Robinson Runs 11.660/70.69, Now #9
Right Lane: Rick Jones Runs 6.691/208.14, Now #5

Jones debuts his new Neon with a good-looking pass.  Still shaky in the left lane.

Left Lane: Doug Kirk Runs 10.716/91.50, Now #10
Right Lane: Kenny Benso Runs 6.653/208.88, Now #3

Same old story...

Left Lane: Ron Miller Runs 6.572/208.84, Now #1
Right Lane: Billy Huff No Time, Now #16

Miller just made everybody who ran before him in the left lane look bad, making a
nice opening run in the "bad lane."  Huff, in the car that Gene Wilson would have
driven, lost fire after the burnout and did not run.

Left Lane: Steve Williford Runs 13.291/56.00, Now #15
Right Lane: Brian Gahm Runs 6.652/208.78, Now #4

Back to form, Willford's car shaking and turning hard right, almost crossing the
centerline, while Gahm recorded a respectable time on a very crooked run.

Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 19.232/40.99, Now #18
Right Lane: Richard Penland Runs 6.958/159.89, Now #10

Spiess shook very hard.  Penland got very close to the centerline and had to lift.

Left Lane: Charlie Peppers Runs 6.784/206.07, Now #9
Right Lane: Dwayne Rice Runs 10.967/101.30, Now #15

Peppers drove through a bunch of shake.  Rice also shook and chose to lift.

Right Lane: Jason Collins Runs 12.388/68.28, Now #18

Collins' car danced and shook on the launch.

Left Lane: Carl Baker No Time, Now #0

Baker rolled in to stage and then appeared to roll back out of the beams as he
brought the RPMs up, drawing a red bulb and no time.
