Results for Qualifying 2

SHREVEPORT, La. - SHREVEPORT - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Mopar Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 5th annual K&N Filters Nationals presented by Your Local Dodge Dealers listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.183/228.85, Now #1
Best prior run: 7.033/146.34, Was #5
Right Lane: Paul Athey Runs 6.727/214.04, Now #6
Best prior run: 14.943/55.00, Was #11
12:58 PM It's 65 degrees, 86 percent relative humidity, barometer 30.12 and steady, overcast.

Athey's car made a horrible burnout, the tires biting instead of spinning. He's in the blower car this weekend, by the way, Quain Stott switching to the nitrous car for this race. Janis just ran away from Athey here, Janis on an extremely straight smooth run, Athey's car apparently down on power.
Left Lane: Danny McVay No Time, Now #12
				No Prior Run
Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.247/223.17, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.285/222.11, Was #3
McVay left before the tree, then headed for the wall, so he lifted. Very nice run by Jenkins, one of the quickest ever by a nitrous car.
Left Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.283/223.25, Now #3
Best prior run: 11.098/79.91, Was #9
Right Lane: Harold Martin Runs 6.285/223.28, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.289/223.14, Was #4
Two very nice runs, Stott smoothly down the left lane in the nitrous car and Martin improving over his career best elapsed time by 0.004 seconds.
Left Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 6.363/222.99, Now #6
Best prior run: 11.268/83.34, Was #10
Right Lane: Chuck Nuytten Runs 7.402/165.29, Now #10
				No Prior Run
Nuytten's Corvette hiked the left front wheel way up, then headed for the centerline, so he backed off to straighten it out. Nice pass by Hoover, clean and straight.
Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.280/221.89, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.285/226.01, Was #4
Right Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 7.358/126.51, Now #10
Best prior run: 10.946/74.90, Was #11
Pittman slowed before half track. Stott made his second good pass of the event, straight and smooth.
Left Lane: Tim Savell Runs 7.516/177.37, Now #9
Best prior run: 7.140/180.81, Was #9
Right Lane: Al Billes Runs 6.257/225.00, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.397/222.62, Was #7
Last pair and Billes makes a nice, hard run, right down the groove. Savell's car was sluggish off the line and never did pick up the pace.

Results for Qualifying 3

SHREVEPORT, La. - SHREVEPORT - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Mopar Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual K&N Filters Nationals presented by Your Local Dodge Dealers listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Paul Athey Runs 6.714/221.67, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.727/214.04, Was #8
Right Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 12.141/79.93, Now #12
Best prior run: 12.162/85.35, Was #12
8:06 PM Last chance to change dancing partners for tomorrow. Both these drivers have had problems getting down the lane in their first two runs. Both chattered the tires very hard on the launch, both cars heading to the left. Castellana lifted. Athey pedaled and continued, barely missing the wall.
Left Lane: Al Billes Runs 6.332/223.21, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.257/225.00, Was #3
Right Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 11.843/85.69, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.363/222.99, Was #7
"Hoov" spun the tires hard and shut it down. Billes went right down the groove, but was unable to get into the twenties this time out.
Left Lane: Harold Martin Runs 6.469/218.69, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.285/223.28, Was #6
Right Lane: Danny McVay Runs 8.271/125.90, Now #12
				No Prior Run
McVay left before the tree last time, so needed only to make a legal pass to get into the field as the thirteenth car. His car is listed as a Camaro, but looks more like a Beretta. Clean pass by Martin, but way off his first and second round pace.
Left Lane: Chuck Nuytten Runs 8.334/138.61, Now #11
Best prior run: 7.402/165.29, Was #11
Right Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.238/227.04, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.280/221.89, Was #4
Nuytten rolled the beams. Stott made a very nice run, smooth, straight, and quick.
Left Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 6.427/215.34, Now #8
Best prior run: 7.358/126.51, Was #10
Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.447/200.20, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.283/223.25, Was #5
Stott's car was slow off the mark and then picked up the pace a bit. Stott was on a good pass, maybe a tenth better, but there was a big flash of flame from the engine around the 1,000-foot marker and he slowed.
Left Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.275/222.00, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.247/223.17, Was #3
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.238/226.77, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.183/228.85, Was #1
The best nitrous car versus the best blower car, a great pairing to close the round, and "The Iceman" gives Janis a run for his money, but Janis blower had too much for Jenkins on the top end.
Left Lane: Tim Savell Runs 7.244/151.94, Now #10
Best prior run: 7.140/180.81, Was #10
Oops, one more car. Savell's engine was smoking on the top end and he had the chutes out before the finish line.

 (L) Alan Pittman (Grave Digger '41Willys) 0.448 6.367 221.45

Results for Final Round

SHREVEPORT, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 4 eliminations in Mopar Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual K&N Filters Nationals presented by Your Local Dodge Dealers:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Ed Hoover (Trussel Constr. '63 Corvette) 0.471 6.295 223.43
 (L) Harold Martin (AC Delco '02 Grand Am) 0.476 6.640 176.88
4:42 PM This was Martin's first final round in IHRA Pro Mod competition, but he is still seeking his first win. The two left together, but then Martin got out of the groove and fell back, even though Hoover's run was far from "in the groove" too, moving to the left edge of the groove and then back toward the centerline. Hoover had the lead by 330 feet and then extended it the rest of the way down the track, Martin throwing in the towel before the 1,000-foot marker.
