SHREVEPORT, La. - SHREVEPORT - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 5th annual K&N Filters Nationals presented by Your Local Dodge Dealers listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Terry Munroe Runs 6.341/221.78, Now #1
Right Lane: Jimmy Rector Runs 10.451/80.86, Now #2
2:25 PM Rector had a 0.973 60-foot time, but then the car got very sideways and Rector proved that he does know how to lift. Clean run for Munroe, but a few tenths off the race pace.
Left Lane: Laurie Cannister Runs 5.892/239.48, Now #1
Right Lane: Dale Brand Runs 6.003/239.95, Now #2
Cannister went right down the groove, smooth and clean. Brand's car left with hers, but was a bit loose for the first 300 feet and then got very close to the wall on the top end. No harm, no foul, but he took the long way to the line.
Left Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 6.253/231.44, Now #4
Right Lane: Rob Atchison Runs 5.987/233.92, Now #2
Thomas drove through shake on the starting line and may have pedaled it to get off the line, losing a lot of elapsed time in the first 300 feet. Clean pass for Atchison, no visible problems.
Left Lane: Ronnie Midyette Runs 10.084/85.70, Now #7
Right Lane: Chris Foster Runs 7.278/135.81, Now #6
Midyette shook very hard and shut it down quickly. Foster also shook, but not as hard, then appeared to lose the engine at half track,
Right Lane: Tony Bogolo Runs 11.111/76.69, Now #9
Bogolo had the wheels up and the rear tires shaking so he shut it down quickly and coasted through.

Right Lane: Jimmy Rector Runs 5.873/238.85, Now #2
				No Prior Run
Rector had a really nice run and moved into the number two spot for now. He had not qualified prior to this round, so he really got the run he needed when he needed it most. Thomas also had a good run that beat his prior time by nearly four-hundredths of a second but it wasn't enough to move him up in the order.
Left Lane: Terry Munroe Runs 6.012/234.33, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.113/231.95, Was #8
Right Lane: Tony Bogolo Runs 7.284/137.71, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.337/215.58, Was #9
Bogolo got off the line slowly and slowed even more as he reached half track. In the left lane, Munroe beat his prior best ET of the weekend by more than a tenth.
Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 5.981/236.75, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.057/236.46, Was #8
Right Lane: Rob Atchison Runs 6.133/228.27, Now #4

Left Lane: Ronnie Midyette Runs 6.082/226.54, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.041/229.59, Was #8

Best prior run: 5.831/243.63, Was #1
Cannister has been the story of the weekend in the funny car ranks as she ran a 5.892 in round one and then beat that with a 5.831 in round two and has been at the top of the order all weekend. Even though she didn't need it, she ran even quicker in round three and widened the gap between herself and the number two qualifier.

Results for Elimination Round 1

SHREVEPORT, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Funny Car at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual K&N Filters Nationals presented by Your Local Dodge Dealers:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Laurie Cannister (Girl Power Camaro) 0.500 5.818 242.84
 (L) Chris Foster (Foster Racing Avenger) 0.529 6.077 231.00
This has been Laurie Cannister's weekend so far. Even with a .500 start, she got an easy round one win over Foster when Foster had an even slower start and then shut down at the end of the concrete. She'll have a bye in round two.
 (W) Jimmy Rector (Holbrook Performance Camaro) 0.491 6.192 236.51
 (L) Tony Bogolo (McCowan M'Sports Avenger) 0.481 6.249 231.12
Both Bogolo and Rector shook the tires coming off the line. Both pedaled it and turned this into a real race. Rector pedaled it better and got the win.
 (W) Dale Brand (Co-Line Welding Firebird) 0.499 6.055 239.87
 (L) Ronnie Midyette (K&W Racing Camaro) 0.631 6.026 233.03
Midyette came close and almost got the upset win after Brand shook the tires at the start. If Midyette had not had such a horrible start, he would be moving into the next round, but his start was so bad that Brand was able to get back into it and take the round.
 (W) Terry McMillen (Amalie Oil Avenger) 0.532 5.929 239.31
 (L) Terry Munroe (Munroe Auto Body Firebird) 0.512 6.032 234.37
McMillen ran his low ET of the weekend and got the win over Munroe. McMillen will have lane choice over Brand in the next round.
 (W) Mark Thomas (Ethanol Performs Avenger) 0.517 5.835 239.53
 (L) Rob Atchison (PrideFC Firebird) 0.479 6.129 229.70
Thomas was slow all during qualifying but he found the quickness he needed in round one. Atchison made it a close race until 800 feet, but something broke on his car and he slowed.

Sunday

Results for Elimination Round 2

SHREVEPORT, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Funny Car at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual K&N Filters Nationals presented by Your Local Dodge Dealers:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (L) Laurie Cannister (Girl Power Camaro) 0.000(R) (Broke)
     was unopposed
There is only one way to lose a race when you've got a bye and Cannister lost that way. Even though she had a bye in this round, she tried to make a full run in order to get lane choice. She made her burn out and threw a connecting rod so she had to shut it down. The rules say that she had to stage the car and take the tree to move on. She was unable to do so either Brand or McMillen will get a bye in the semifinal round.
 (W) Dale Brand (Co-Line Welding Firebird) 0.449 5.950 237.38
 (L) Terry McMillen (Amalie Oil Avenger) 0.235(R) 7.262 129.72
McMillen left way too early. Brand had a good light and a good run to move into the next round. He'll have a bye in the next round so unless something goes wrong, he'll be in the finals.
 (W) Jimmy Rector (Holbrook Performance Camaro) 0.447 5.991 236.30
 (L) Mark Thomas (Ethanol Performs Avenger) 0.598 5.930 236.71
Rector got the win. He'll have a bye in the semis and will meet Brand in the finals unless one of them fails to take the tree in the semifinals.

Sunday

Results for Elimination Round 3

SHREVEPORT, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 3 eliminations in Funny Car at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, Fifth annual K&N Filters Nationals presented by Your Local Dodge Dealers:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Dale Brand (Co-Line Welding Firebird) 0.449 5.851 235.68
     was unopposed
Brand should have been running against Cannister in this round but ended up running unopposed because she was unable to make a quarter-final run. He made this run to try to win lane choice over Rector, who will have a semifinal bye.
 (W) Jimmy Rector (Holbrook Performance Camaro) 0.000 (Broke)
     was unopposed
Rector had a bye in this round. Under IHRA rules, he notified the tower in advance that his car was broken and he did not have to make this run. He will meet Brand in the finals and Brand will have lane choice.

Sunday
