Right Lane: Scott Ray Runs 7.254/138.39, Now #18

Right Lane: Chip King Runs 6.493/220.30, Now #11
King shook the tires at 300 feet but was able to stay with the run. Patterson

Right Lane: Tim McAmis Runs 6.347/222.73, Now #2

Right Lane: Brian Daniels Runs 6.593/215.24, Now #23
A smooth run but not enough speed to make the field.
Left Lane: Dale Brinsfield Runs 6.556/212.93, Now #21
This is Brinsfield's first race in his new, supercharged '41 Willys.
Brinsfield was supposed to run earlier in this session but after he did his
burnout, the track spotters noticed oil at the end of the track and shut him down.
When the cleanup was continued, Brinsfield decided to make his run at the end of
the session so he had time to cool his car's engine.

field. Stott did just what he wanted to do with a very strong run that moved him up
12 spots in the qualifying order, with the third quickest time of the day so far.

loose and had to back off the throttle.

Best prior run: 6.578/210.90, Was #30

burnout. Brinsfield started to make his burnout but hurt the engine and had to shut
it down.
Left Lane: Terry Hall Runs 10.990/94.27, Now #41
Best prior run: 7.728/162.37, Was #41
Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.197/228.54, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.307/225.41, Was #4
Hall seemed to have no power on this run and made a slow, uneventful run.
Stott really hooked it up with the quickest run of the weekend so far. He's in the
number one spot for now.
Left Lane: Carl Bullock Runs 6.337/220.91, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.461/217.60, Was #24
Right Lane: Chip King Runs 6.256/225.33, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.391/223.43, Was #16
King has been sitting on the bubble and wanted to improve his time and get
into a safer position. He had a smooth, strong run and moved up 13 spots in the
qualifying order. It's a good thing he did because Bullock put together a strong
run and bumped Al Billes from the field. Troy Critchley, who was just unable to get
his car started and missed his qualifying pass, is now on the bubble with a 6.378
second bump time.
Left Lane: Steve Salvadore Runs 7.710/129.62, Now #41
Best prior run: 8.589/106.29, Was #42
Right Lane: Paul Athey Runs 7.357/129.80, Now #22
Best prior run: 6.426/218.90, Was #22
Athey shook the tires, got loose and drifted out of the groove. He ran close
to the wall for a few hundred feet and finally touched the wall at 1,000 feet.
Salvadore had a bit of shake and never got enough power to make a good run. Neither
driver qualified for elimination rounds.
Left Lane: Tori Cagle Runs 28.221/38.30, Now #47
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Johnny Rocca No Time, Now #32
Best prior run: 6.606/221.23, Was #32
Rocca did his burnout and when he backed up to stage, the parachute dropped
out. Cagle staged and took the light. He went back on the wheelie bar and shook the
tires, then shut it down and coasted the rest of the way. Sometime during the run,
the rear axle on Cagle's car broke and when he got to the end of the track, the
axle assembly fell out and the car had to be taken off the track on a flatbed
truck.
Left Lane: Mike Stawicki Runs 6.674/202.00, Now #36
Best prior run: 6.888/169.76, Was #37
Right Lane: Brian Daniels Runs 6.397/217.46, Now #19
Best prior run: 6.593/215.24, Was #31
Both drivers had smooth runs but neither was quick enough to make the
field.
Left Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 6.411/225.86, Now #15
Best prior run: 6.373/222.55, Was #15
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.219/228.73, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.336/224.92, Was #9
Both drivers were already in the field and were looking to improve their
spots in the order. Janis got what he wanted, moving up seven spots to the number
two position in the order. Patterson had a smooth run but did not move up in the
order.
Right Lane: Bobby Baucom Runs 6.285/223.36, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.587/216.79, Was #31
When Baucom staged, he was in the 31st spot in the order. This time, he had a
really strong run that put him in the top half of the field and bumped Troy
Critchley from the field. Baucom's 60-foot time in this run was 1.007 seconds.

Results for Elimination Round 1
BUDDS CREEK, Md. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Mopar
Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 11th annual CARQUEST
Auto Parts Mid-Atlantic Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Shannon Jenkins ('68 Camaro) 0.464 6.316 223.39
(L) Al Billes ('53 Studebaker) 0.493 9.801 90.66
1:02 PM - Air temperature was 78 degrees, humidity was 48 percent and the
barometric pressure was 30.33 and steady. Prior to this round, Jenkins and Billes
have met six times in eliminations this year. Billes beat Jenkins three times, with
one of those wins coming in the final round of the Spring Nationals at Rockingham.
Jenkins has beaten Billes three times, including a final round win in the Northern
Nationals at Martin, Michigan in July. Jenkins was 30 points ahead of Billes in the
season championship when these cars staged. Both drivers had good launches but
Billes got loose at 100 feet. he tried to stay with it for a while but started to
go sideways so he backed off.
(W) Rickie Smith (Lucas Oil '01 Viper) 0.490 6.360 221.49
(L) Bobby Baucom ('00 Avenger) 0.595 10.880 72.44
Baucom was not in the field when he staged for his final qualifying attempt
last night. When he needed a good run, he really got it and moved into the number
two spot. This is the first time Baucom has qualified for eliminations this year.
Smith's only appearance in eliminations came at the Spring Nationals when he beat
Mike Janis in the first round and lost to Shannon Jenkins in the next round. Baucom
shook the tires at 100 feet and had to back off. Smith got loose on his own but was
able to stay with it for the win. When Baucom's car shook the tires, it shook so
hard that the rear end broke and the car had to be towed out of the shut down
area.
(W) Thomas Patterson ('63 Corvette) 0.462 6.509 223.25
(L) Quain Stott (Lee Boy Paving '63 Corvette) 0.537 13.809 64.32
Racing resumed again after a lengthy delay to clean up rear-end oil from
Baucom's car. This was the first time that Patterson and Stott have not met in
eliminations this year. Patterson won the ACDelco Canadian Nationals in Cayuga in
August. Before this, he's won ion the first round four times and lost three times.
Stott's record in eliminations this year is four wins and nine losses. Patterson
literally had his door blown off on this run but he got the win anyway. Stott shook
the tires at 100 feet and had to back off the throttle. Patterson had the better
light and was running out in front when the right side door blew off the car. He
kept on going for the win. Patterson will not be disqualified for leaving debris on
the track but he still has to pass the scales, so if his car was close to the
minimum weight, the missing door could cause a problem. Patterson gave up lane
choice to Jenkins in the next round.
(W) Kent Ferrell ('63 Corvette) 0.501 6.422 221.23
(L) Mike Janis (Jan-Cen Engines '63 Corvette) 0.549 7.058 159.36
This one was an upset. It was Ferrell's first appearance in IHRA Pro Mod
eliminations this year and he got to face off against the number one qualifier.
Janis has won eight of the nine first rounds he's been in this season and has a
total eliminations round record of 23 wins and six losses. he's been to the final
round five teams this season and won three times. Ferrell was first off the
starting line and just kept on going. Janis tried to catch him but shook the tires
just a bit at 330 feet and could not run down Ferrell. Smith will have lane choice
over Ferrell in the next round.
(W) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.476 6.295 227.80
(L) Alan Pittman (Grave Digger '41Willys) 0.476 6.322 224.58
Stott and Pittman have met three times this year before this round, with
Stott winning all three times. Overall, Stott's record in eliminations rounds is 14
wins and eight losses, with his only final round win of the season coming at Epping
three weeks ago. Stott has won in the first rounds six times this season and lost
three times. Pittman has four wins and seven losses in eliminations rounds this
year. Stott and Pittman had identical reaction times at the tree. Stott was ahead
by 44-thousands of a second at at 60-feet and Pittman was closing in as they ran
down the track. By the end of the race, Pittman had made up half of Stott's lead
but just ran out of room. Margin of victory: 0.0270 seconds (approximately 9
feet).
(W) Chip King ('01 Avenger) 0.525 6.464 196.24
(L) Harold Martin (AC Delco '02 Grand Am) 0.434 27.505 24.66
King and Martin have not met this year prior to this round. Martin's record
in eliminations rounds this year is six wins and nine losses, including a final
round loss to Ed Hoover at Shreveport in May. His first round record this year is
four wins and five losses. King has made it into eliminations three times and lost
in the first round all three times. Martin had the better light but shook the tires
hard at 60 feet. He backed off the throttle and there was a loud pop from his car.
King had a smooth easy run for his first win in Pro Mod eliminations.
(W) Tommy Gray (Undertaker '53 Corvette) 0.512 6.373 223.47
(L) Tim McAmis (Sanders M'Sports '63 Corvette) 0.549 12.149 79.86
This was the fourth race that Gray has entered this season and the second
time he qualified for eliminations. He made it into the semi-finals in the Spring
Nationals at Rockingham before he lost to Shannon Jenkins. In the second round at
Rockingham, Gray beat McAmis in the only other time they've meet this season.
McAmis' record in eliminations rounds this year is two wins and two losses, with
two first round wins. He qualified for the ACDelco Nationals in April but did not
return in June for the rain-delayed eliminations rounds. McAmis shook the tires
really hard and backed off on this run. Gray had a smooth run and won lane choice
over King in the next round.
(W) Ed Hoover (Trussel Constr. '63 Corvette) 0.539 6.363 213.67
(L) Carl Bullock ('41Willys) 1.079 7.018 220.37
This was the first time that Bullock has made it to eliminations this year in
the IHRA Pro Mod division. Hoover's record in eliminations prior to this round was
18 wins and seven losses and his first round record before today was eight wins and
one loss. Something must have been wrong with Bullock's car because he sat on the
line for more than half a second after Hoover took off. Hoover gave up lane choice
to Mitch Stott in the second round.

(W) Tommy Gray (Undertaker '53 Corvette) 0.530 6.706 161.59
(L) Chip King ('01 Avenger) 0.000(R) (Broke)
3:12 PM - At the start of this round, the air temperature was 78 degrees,
relative humidity was 41 percent and the barometric pressure was 30.31 and steady.
King hurt his engine during his first-round win over Harold Martin and was unable
to make the call. Gray had a competition single for the win.
(W) Rickie Smith (Lucas Oil '01 Viper) 0.514 6.363 216.24
(L) Kent Ferrell ('63 Corvette) 0.493 10.440 84.73
Smith doubled his season win total earlier today when he beat Bobby Baucom
for his second eliminations round win of the season. Ferrell got his first
eliminations win of the season when he upset Mike Janis in the first round with a
hole shot. This time around, Ferrell had the quicker start but began to drop off
the pace between 60 and 330 feet. Smith just pulled ahead for the win.
(W) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.559 6.252 228.31
(L) Ed Hoover (Trussel Constr. '63 Corvette) 0.522 10.489 91.06
After the first round, Hoover was in third place in the season points
standings, 37 points in front of Mitch Stott. These two have met twice before this
season, with their record split at one win each. Hoover beat Stott in the final
round at Grand Bend, Ontario in June, while Stott got the win in the second round
at Cordova in May. Hoover had the quicker light but shook the tires hard at 100
feet and backed off. Stott had a smooth run from start to finish and won lane
choice over Smith in the semi-final round.
(W) Shannon Jenkins ('68 Camaro) 0.500 6.285 223.84
(L) Thomas Patterson ('63 Corvette) 0.482 6.711 175.32
Jenkins and Patterson have raced twice this year before this round and
Jenkins took both rounds. They last met in the second round at Epping three weeks
ago. In the first round, Patterson lost his passenger side door when he beat Quain
Stott. Patterson was 18-thousandths of a second quicker at the tree but Jenkins
made up half the distance by 60 feet. After that, it was Jenkins all the way as he
just pulled by Patterson and kept on going. Jenkins will have lane choice over Gray
in the third round.

(W) Shannon Jenkins ('68 Camaro) 0.498 6.479 221.02
(L) Tommy Gray (Undertaker '53 Corvette) 0.600 6.393 223.50
4:36 PM - The only time these two raced each other before this round came in
the third round of the the season opener in Rockingham. Jenkins won that race and
then lost to Al Billes in the final round. Gray had a competition single in the
second round when scheduled opponent Chip King was unable to answer the call. King
torched a cylinder head in his round one win and was unable to make the needed
repairs. The air temperature was 76 degrees at 43 percent humidity and the
barometric pressure was 30.31 and steady. Jenkins won this one on a hole shot,
getting off the starting line more than a tenth of a second before Gray. It's a
good thing for Jenkins that he had the better start because Gray had the quicker
run and lower ET.
(W) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.489 6.265 227.88
(L) Rickie Smith (Lucas Oil '01 Viper) 0.503 6.353 221.13
This was the first meeting of the season between Smith and Mitch Stott. Smith
started this weekend with just one win and one loss in elimination rounds. Stott
has already been to the final round three times this season, losing twice and
winning the division at Epping three weeks ago. This race was Stott's all the way.
he got off the starting line first and stayed ahead for the the entire quarter
mile. Stott will have lane choice over Jenkins in the final round. This will be the
third final round match-up in a row between Stott and Jenkins. Stott won the race
at Epping three weeks ago and Jenkins won two weeks before that at Norwalk.
Sunday
Results for Final Round
BUDDS CREEK, Md. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of final, round 4 eliminations
in Mopar Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 11th annual
CARQUEST Auto Parts Mid-Atlantic Nationals:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.507 6.227 227.77
(L) Shannon Jenkins ('68 Camaro) 0.434 12.842 71.14
6:15 PM - The air temperature was 72 degrees at 49 percent humidity and the
barometric pressure as 30.31 and steady. This was the third final round match-up
in a row between Stott and Jenkins. Each driver won one of the previous two races:
Stott at Norwalk and Jenkins at Epping. At the end of the third round of
eliminations, Jenkins was 74 points ahead of Al Billes in the season points
standings. A win here would have given him 40 more points and extended his lead to
114 points. That would not be enough to clinch the championship today, so all he'd
have to do is make a qualifying attempt at Rockingham in three weeks and he'll
clinch the number one spot. When this was done, Jenkins did not get the win he
needed, so he'll have to do more than just make a qualifying pass at Rockingham.
Jenkins beat Stott at the tree by 73 thousandths of a second but he shook the tires
at 60 feet and had to back off the throttle right away. Stott had a strong run and
made up for the slower start by the 60 foot mark and then just kept driving
away.
