Results for Qualifying 1

EPPING, N.H. - EPPING - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 7th annual Amalie Oil North American Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Terry Hall Runs 7.845/119.00, Now #1
Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 14.052/68.28, Now #2
1:15 PM It's 73 degrees, 27 percent relative humidity, the barometer 30.09 and falling, not a cloud in sight.

Hall's car is a wild-looking, chopped '36 Chevy Sedan, still in gray primer. Both cars shook, Stott shutting down and Hall trying to drive through it.
Left Lane: Patrick Doherty Runs 6.561/213.74, Now #1
Right Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 14.116/55.87, Now #4
"Grave Digger" shook and turned hard right. Doherty's car was slow off the line, but avoided the shakes.
Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 14.216/76.91, Now #5
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 17.926/50.28, Now #6
More shake, lots of it in both lanes.
Left Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 6.371/224.66, Now #1
Right Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 11.989/74.48, Now #4
Patterson drove through shake, his car all over the lane, but a nice effort. Hoover shook hard and shut it down.
Left Lane: Al Billes Runs 6.308/226.01, Now #1
Right Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 14.287/107.88, Now #9
Billes' Studebaker showed no signs of tire shake. Critchley shook hard, got sideways, and lifted.
Left Lane: Michael Faucher Runs 10.416/83.48, Now #6
Right Lane: Sal Passarelli Runs 6.405/220.08, Now #3
Amazing! Passarelli's car shook the tires hard on the launch, trailing tire smoke, yet he managed a reasonable elapsed time and a big speed. Faucher shook and...well, you know the drill.
Left Lane: Steve Salvadore Runs 9.453/94.30, Now #7
Right Lane: Paul Athey Runs 6.348/222.55, Now #2
Salvadore shook, got sideways, smoked the tires, and refused to lift until he got a good look at the left wall. Athey did a nice job of driving here, the car shaking and loose.
Left Lane: Not on File Runs 9.866/83.77, Now #9
Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.324/222.44, Now #2
Dunno who is in the left lane car - their tech card hasn't been entered in the computer yet. Jenkins spun the tires a bit on the launch, but that may be the key to avoiding the hard shake that has ended so many runs in the right lane today.
Left Lane: Pat Moore Runs 6.470/219.47, Now #7
Right Lane: Roy Wasko Runs 6.417/218.58, Now #6
Neither car in this pair shook visibly. Wasko was a bit to the right of the groove, but managed a nice run anyway.
Left Lane: Steve Vick Runs 10.541/87.61, Now #14
Right Lane: Harold Martin Runs 6.417/220.66, Now #6
One of the two cars in the prior pair lost some brake fluid in the shutdown area, so we were down for a few minutes. Vick's car shook and skated, turning hard left. He barely missed the wall. Meanwhile, Martin continued his string of solid runs since his fire at Rockingham in the season opener, running right down the groove.
Left Lane: Mike Lockwood Runs 9.304/116.45, Now #12
Right Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.356/223.73, Now #4
Lockwood shook hard and slowed. Hahn made a nice-looking run, clean and straight.
Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 8.716/88.69, Now #12
Right Lane: Chip King Runs 9.146/99.18, Now #13
Two launched, two sets of dotted tire tracks, and two engines shutting down, almost in synchronization.
