Results for Qualifying 1

LEICESTER, N.Y. - LEICESTER - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Mopar Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 14th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Empire Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.362/224.88, Now #1
Right Lane: Ed Wasserbeck Runs 6.953/202.52, Now #2
1:40 PM It's 78 degrees, 56 percent relative humidity, barometer 30.08 and falling, cloudless skies.

Stott was doing color commentary during the Funny Car round and predicted he'd run a 6.31 here. He made a good run, but came up a bit short of his prediction. Nothing wrong we could see with Wasserbeck's run, but he was well off Stott's torrid pace.
Left Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.537/220.42, Now #3
Right Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 6.499/199.15, Now #2
Janus drove through lots of shake and pedaled top get down the track. Patterson shook and then hurt some pistons on the top end, trailing smoke through the lights.
Left Lane: Mike Lockwood Runs 6.436/220.04, Now #3
Right Lane: Steve Vick Runs 6.397/221.34, Now #2
Finally a pair of nitrous cars, the first four all sporting blowers through the hood. By comparison, the cars with the hood scoops are quieter and both ran smoothly to get a run on the books. Two clean runs, no wasted motion.
Left Lane: Pat Moore Runs 6.676/168.09, Now #6
Right Lane: Larry Sinke Runs 6.691/179.64, Now #7
Moore's car got severely out of shape, appeared to tag the wall, and nearly went over, Moore doing a great job of driving and getting the chutes out to save it. Meanwhile, something came off the body of Sinke's car around the 1,000-foot mark, a large piece, possibly the spoiler, flying through the air. Moore is okay, and the word from the top end is that he did not hit the wall, so the run stands. There's oil in the shutdown area, no word yet who did the dirty deed...it's in the left lane.
Left Lane: Paul Athey Runs 6.394/218.39, Now #3
Right Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 6.382/217.54, Now #2
Nitrous for Athey, blower power for Critchley, both of whom drove for Johnny Rocca in recent years. Two nice runs, both cars smoothly down the groove.
Left Lane: Brian Daniels Runs 6.505/218.76, Now #8
Right Lane: Sal Passarelli Runs 6.388/222.93, Now #3
Two more clean runs, Passarelli qualifying well up in the first-round pack.
Left Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 6.608/216.34, Now #11
Right Lane: Roy Wasko Runs 6.487/217.44, Now #7
Pontieri's car spun the tires hard on the launch for a 1.106 60-foot time. Clean run for Wasko, right down the groove.
Left Lane: Jim Gleason Runs 7.177/184.50, Now #16
Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.418/227.27, Now #6
First time out for Gleason and his car appeared to be down on power. Nice job by Stott, who shook and pedaled is way to a decent first-rod time.
Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 9.440/85.44, Now #17
Right Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 13.992/79.23, Now #18
Bot ad problems early, Pittman testing a new clutch setup and chattering the tires, Castellana slowing after what looked like a fairly decent launch.
Left Lane: Harold Martin Runs 6.400/219.40, Now #7
Right Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.381/224.10, Now #2
Hahn's Corvette sports a bunch of new fairings around the blower, obviously an attempt to clean up the airflow around the supercharger. Both cars made solid runs, smooth and right down the groove.
Left Lane: Al Billes Runs 6.686/172.21, Now #17
Right Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 6.434/220.04, Now #9
It looked like Hoover rolled the beams, possibly the reason for his 1.105 60-foot time. Billes left hard, but hurt some engine parts early and trailed smoke through the run.
Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 15.937/50.45, Now #24
Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 7.423/129.53, Now #21
Ray is running a supercharger this weekend, abandoning the electronic fuel injection system. He lost traction violently, apparently needing some more runs to get the harder-hitting combination to work. Jenkins left hard, but slowed before half track, the reason not apparent.
Right Lane: Chip King Runs 7.516/138.82, Now #22
King gets a single, the other remaining car making a new-driver solo pass. The car sounded like it went through the clutch and then it sounded like he popped the burst panel on the top end.
Left Lane: Annette Summer Runs 6.519/217.18, Now #14
Summer has experience in Pro Street and is making her debut in Pro Mod in a '57 Bel Air, a black one with lightning bolts on it - looks like Mike Castellana's old car. She made a soft launch with a 1.090 0-foot time and went smoothly down the groove to get into the admittedly soft first-round field.

Results for Qualifying 2

LEICESTER, N.Y. - LEICESTER - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Mopar Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 14th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Empire Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Chip King Runs 19.794/38.14, Now #20
Best prior run: 7.516/138.82, Was #20
Right Lane: Annette Summer Runs 6.459/212.81, Now #11
Best prior run: 6.519/217.18, Was #14
7:56 PM It's 79 degrees, 61 percent relative humidity, barometer 30.02 and steady. The Sun is low, but it will be light for another hour and most of the next.

King chattered the tires, pedaled shook again, and coasted through, stopping short of the turnoff. Nice second run by Summer, getting her teeth into Pro Mod racing very quickly.
Left Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.297/222.82, Now #1
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Scott Ray Runs 6.715/204.82, Now #19
Best prior run: 15.937/50.45, Was #22
Very nice pass by Jenkins, from way outside the field to the pole position on a clean, straight, smooth pass. Ray lost a lot of ground early and then nipped a few pistons on the top end.
Left Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 13.224/68.70, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.434/220.04, Was #10
Right Lane: Al Billes Runs 10.209/86.80, Now #18
Best prior run: 6.686/172.21, Was #18
Severe tire shake in both lanes, Billes immediately and Billes in the first 100 feet.
Left Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.937/145.93, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.381/224.10, Was #3
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.344/222.93, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.537/220.42, Was #16
Hahn's hood fairings are the same ones he's been running all year, just never saw them from this angle before. He was on a stout pass for the first half of the track, then the engine started eating itself and he slowed, trailing aluminum smoke. Very nice run by janis, trailing Hahn to the 60-foot marker, then quicker the rest of the way down the track.
Left Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 6.354/221.89, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.382/217.54, Was #5
Right Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 10.553/81.78, Now #23
                                  No Prior Run
Castellana was back on the wheelie bar and shaking the tires, so he shut it down once again. Nice second run by Critchley, once again straight and smooth.
Left Lane: Ed Wasserbeck Runs 6.903/203.11, Now #20
Best prior run: 6.953/202.52, Was #20
Right Lane: Harold Martin Runs 6.307/220.53, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.400/219.40, Was #9
Wasserbeck's car appeared to roll the beams, killing his short time and ET. Martin's 1.01 was the quickest we've seen so far today and he moved into the second spot despite some apparent engine damage on the top end, second only to Jenkins in half-track speed. He was quicker than Jenkins at the 660-foot timer, but unable to match Jenkins' top-half pace.
Left Lane: Roy Wasko No Time, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.487/217.44, Was #14
Right Lane: Paul Athey Runs 17.352/43.96, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.394/218.39, Was #8
Wasko over-staged the car, getting no time for this run. Athey had some kind of problem, posting a 1.16 60-foot time on a lazy launch.
Left Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 19.842/36.85, Now #24
Best prior run: 13.992/79.23, Was #24
Right Lane: Brian Daniels Runs 8.267/117.32, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.505/218.76, Was #16
Pittman went through the new clutch badly, the car barely moving away from the starting line. Daniels got off the line, then chattered the tires
Left Lane: Steve Vick Runs 14.317/74.06, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.397/221.34, Was #9
Right Lane: Pat Moore Runs 6.415/219.03, Now #10
                                  No Prior Run
Moore's car looks none the worse for his wild ride last round. Vick wadded up the tires, shook, turned left, and shut it down. Moore went right down the groove on a clean pass.
Left Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 6.893/155.89, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.499/199.15, Was #16
Right Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 6.642/215.10, Now #18
Best prior run: 6.608/216.34, Was #18
No help for either driver here, Patterson launching hard and then falling off the pace, Pontieri slow off the mark and unable to make the race pace.
Left Lane: Sal Passarelli Runs 6.437/221.89, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.388/222.93, Was #7
Right Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.306/224.38, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.362/224.88, Was #5
Two good-looking runs, Passarelli slow to 330 feet and then picking up the pace, Stott strong from the git-go with a 1.013 60-foot time and a clean, straight pass.
Left Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.362/227.04, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.418/227.27, Was #11
Right Lane: Mike Lockwood Runs 6.486/216.19, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.436/220.04, Was #13
These two made their burnouts, then were shut off because there was some fluid in the right lane, about where Daniels had a problem. They chose to wait until the end of the session. Stott used the opportunity under improved conditions, the temperature dropping rapidly, to greatly improve his standing, while Lockwood lost a little ground from his first pass of the day, mainly on the top end of the run.

1:59 PM It's 84 degrees, 54 percent relative humidity, barometer 29.98 and falling, under partly cloudy skies.

Both cars launched into hard shake, Stott throwing in the towel while Passarelli pedaled and continued the run.
Left Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 7.248/140.18, Now #16

Pontieri lost traction immediately. Patterson launched, shook, pedaled, shook, and then gave up.
Left Lane: Steve Vick Runs 12.733/75.91, Now #10

Left Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 6.783/219.08, Now #21
Best prior run: 13.992/79.23, Was #24
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.536/222.49, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.344/222.93, Was #4
Pittman's problems with his new clutch system continued, the car chattering the tires again. He pedaled, shook again, then finished the run. Janis' run looked okay, just off the pace a bit on the top end.
Left Lane: Chip King Runs 7.147/201.52, Now #23
Best prior run: 7.516/138.82, Was #24
Right Lane: Harold Martin Runs 19.242/41.44, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.307/220.53, Was #3
King's car was extremely slow off the line, recording a 1.207 60-foot time with no wheelspin. Martin had a nitrous explosion just off the starting line and coasted through.
Left Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 6.396/219.51, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.434/220.04, Was #12
Right Lane: Al Billes Runs 9.633/95.02, Now #19
Best prior run: 6.686/172.21, Was #19
Billes started shaking and got sideways about 200 feet out, so he lifted. Hoover made a very nice run for these conditions, moving a couple rungs up the ladder.
Left Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.362/220.80, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.297/222.82, Was #1
Right Lane: Scott Ray Runs 6.634/214.33, Now #19
Best prior run: 6.715/204.82, Was #20
Jenkins played "one-up" with Hoover, making an even better hot-day run, right down the groove. Ray made a good launch and a straight run, but fell further behind at every incremental timer. Still, it was his best pass yet with the supercharged combination.
Left Lane: Ed Wasserbeck Runs 7.184/197.36, Now #22
Best prior run: 6.953/202.52, Was #22
Right Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 12.623/77.57, Now #25
                                  No Prior Run
Shake got Castellana early. Wasserbeck also shook early, pedaled, then lost momentum on the top end.
Left Lane: Quain Stott Runs 16.386/63.65, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.362/227.04, Was #6
Right Lane: Paul Athey Runs 6.397/221.13, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.394/218.39, Was #9
Stott shook and shut down immediately. Athey looks like a contender this weekend, the car once again smoothly down the groove.
Left Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 7.768/119.39, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.354/221.89, Was #5
Right Lane: Mike Lockwood Runs 10.193/108.09, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.436/220.04, Was #13
Lockwood shook immediately. Critchley was on a good run to about 330 feet, then there was the distinct "POP" sound of a burst panel letting go.
Left Lane: Roy Wasko Runs 6.533/216.71, Now #15
Best prior run: 6.487/217.44, Was #15
Right Lane: Annette Summer Runs 14.795/55.61, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.459/212.81, Was #14
Nice pass for Wasko. Summer's Bel Air was back on the wheelie bar and shaking, so she lifted.
Right Lane: Brian Daniels Runs 6.633/217.97, Now #17
Best prior run: 6.505/218.76, Was #17
Daniels made a soft launch and a clean run to close the session.

Results for Qualifying 4

LEICESTER, N.Y. - LEICESTER - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Mopar Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 14th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Empire Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Brian Daniels Runs 15.077/54.74, Now #17
Best prior run: 6.505/218.76, Was #17
Right Lane: Roy Wasko Runs 22.140/34.01, Now #15
Best prior run: 6.487/217.44, Was #15
8:45 PM The final session opens with a temperature of 70 degrees, the humidity at 100 percent because of the quick temperature drop, and the barometer at 29.98 and steady. The bump is a 6.499 and both points leader Al Billes and Alan Pittman in the popular "Grave Digger" outside the field.

Both chattered the tires hard on the launch and coasted through.
Left Lane: Annette Summer Runs 12.884/88.25, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.459/212.81, Was #14
Right Lane: Troy Critchley No Time, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.354/221.89, Was #5
Critchley made a long, smoky burnout, almost running down the rescue truck that was going down the right lane to make sure Wasko got off the track. Then when the light turned green, Critchley's engine burped and died, the car stopping just off the starting line.. Meanwhile, Summers' car tried to cross the centerline and she shut it down. So far they are oh-for-four in this final session.
Left Lane: Mike Lockwood Runs 10.272/110.17, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.436/220.04, Was #13
Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.516/224.55, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.362/227.04, Was #6
Lockwood chattered the tires and shut it down. Stott also shook, but pedaled and continued, exercising skills that might come in handy tomorrow.
Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 6.458/218.12, Now #14
                                  No Prior Run
Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 16.321/47.76, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.297/222.82, Was #1
Castellana has struggled here, no complete runs to his credit in three tries. He made a gutsy run here, the car moving to the left on the launch and Castellana staying on the throttle to get into the field, putting Wasko on the bubble at 6.487. Jenkins launched, shook, and shut off.
Left Lane: Harold Martin No Time, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.307/220.53, Was #3
Right Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 10.142/104.60, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.396/219.51, Was #10
Martin lost fire in the water and did not run. Hoover spun and shook, then coasted through.
Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 6.513/218.71, Now #19
Best prior run: 6.715/204.82, Was #21
Right Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.468/221.18, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.381/224.10, Was #7
THis is a strange session, especially after the Pro Stock cars had a very good session, with almost no shake. Most Pro Mod cars have missed the clutch setup badly. Ray made a nice-looking run, but came up just short of the bump time on a run that was just 0.002 seconds slower than his career-best elapsed time, so he's getting the new blower car sorted out quickly. Nothing was visibly wrong with Hahn's run, but he lost a tenth of a second somewhere along the way.
Left Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.355/225.00, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.344/222.93, Was #4
Right Lane: Chip King No Time, Now #24
Best prior run: 7.147/201.52, Was #24
Nice run by Janis, who has run two 6.50s during the daylight sessions and two 6.30s in the evening sessions. King made his burnout, backed up, and was signaled to shut it off, a trail of oil visible on the launch pad.
Left Lane: Al Billes Runs 6.452/215.31, Now #15
Best prior run: 6.686/172.21, Was #20
Right Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 6.363/222.82, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.783/219.08, Was #22
Two struggling cars were paired up here and both came through in the clutch. You could say that "Grave Digger" was resurrected here, Pittman pulling a great pass out of his back pocket to bump Wasko from the field while points leader Billes was also pullimg one out of the memory banks, bouncing Summer, squeaking into the field just above the bump spot.
Left Lane: Paul Athey Runs 6.375/220.58, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.394/218.39, Was #10
Right Lane: Ed Wasserbeck Runs 9.245/85.29, Now #23
Best prior run: 6.953/202.52, Was #23
Wasserbeck slowed almost immediately, while Athey made his third good pass of the event, this one just a bit quicker than the other two.
Left Lane: Tony Pontieri Runs 11.408/89.40, Now #22
Best prior run: 6.608/216.34, Was #22
Right Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 6.387/222.38, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.499/199.15, Was #19
Pontieri shook and shut off. Patterson made a strong run under lots of pressure, bumping Castellana. That put Billes on the bump spot at 6.452.
Left Lane: Pat Moore Runs 6.398/219.72, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.415/219.03, Was #14
Right Lane: Steve Vick Runs 6.379/220.26, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.397/221.34, Was #13
Two more good runs, both already in so Billes was safe, both shuffling the field a bit.
Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.274/227.33, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.306/224.38, Was #2
Right Lane: Sal Passarelli Runs 6.368/223.10, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.388/222.93, Was #12
And the final pair, also already in, so Billes avoids the indignity of missing the field and will face the #1 qualifier tomorrow. And who will that be, you ask? Stott predicted a 6.27 when he was up here doing color for the Funny Car session, also predicting that crew chief Jimmy Rector would give him a real thrill ride after Rector's final run went awry, then he went downstairs and did just what he predicted. Meanwhile, Passarelli also stepped up nicely to get lane choice in the first round, where he will face the surprisingly consistent Athey.

LEICESTER, N.Y. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Mopar Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 14th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Empire Nationals:

 (W) Sal Passarelli ('68 Nova) 0.463 6.425 222.99
 (L) Paul Athey (Mohegan Sun '63 Corvette) 0.482 6.411 220.42
12:43 PM It's 82 degrees, 72 degrees, barometer 30.00 and steady, partly cloudy skies.

Athey has blown up, been close to upside down, and generally had an awful season, but he has been running well here and found himself in a tight matchup in round one. The race lived up to the closeness of their qualifying runs, Passarelli with a small holeshot, losing the lead at half track, then going by in the lights with just enough for a close victory. Passarelli's incremental margins (negative means he's behind) 60ft(0.017), 330ft(0.009), 660ft(-0.002), 1,000ft(-0.007). MOV: 0.0050 seconds (approximately 19 inches).

Critchley laid down another huge burnout. Then he left first and steadily pulled away from Patterson, who nipped a few pistons at the finish line.
 (W) Ed Hoover (Trussel Constr. '63 Corvette) 0.447 6.370 219.29
 (L) Mike Janis (Jan-Cen Engines '63 Corvette) 0.463 15.524 55.86
Hoover got a great light and pulled away from Janis, who chattered the tires, turned right, and then broke. Janis coasted through and the track spotters found oil in his lane, but way down the track, from 1,000 feet on. Strange, maybe his "diaper" overflowed. Hoover will have lane choice over Critchley in round two, his car strong, smooth, and straight.
 (W) Al Billes ('53 Studebaker) 0.482 6.597 219.78
 (L) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.501 7.488 150.75
Billes struggled in qualifying, pulling a rabbit out of the hat in the final qualifying session, while Stott made three good runs in four tries. This one could have a big impact on the points, Billes in the lead and Stott fourth...Billes extended his points lead because Stott's car overpowered the launch pad. Stott pedaled, spun again, pedaled again, and finally got it to go down the track. By then, Billes was long gone on an easy run down the groove. Billes faces Passarelli next round, Passarelli with lane choice.
 (W) Shannon Jenkins ('68 Camaro) 0.461 10.949 105.47
 (L) Mike Lockwood ('66 Corvette) 0.000(R) (Broke)
Lockwood's car did not fire and Jenkins got a freebie - and then shook the tires hard and coasted through! When you're hot, you're hot!
 (W) Pat Moore (Ed Steffey '57 Bel Air) 0.479 6.509 217.39
 (L) Harold Martin (AC Delco '02 Grand Am) 0.597 6.403 220.42
Huge holeshot upset here, Moore with a good light and Martin way late. He almost reeled Moore in, but ran out of race track. Moore's incremental margins: 60ft(0.087), 330 ft(0.060), 660ft(0.043), 1,000ft(0.027). MOV: 0.0124 seconds (approximately 4 feet).
 (W) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing '01 Corvette) 0.474 6.514 220.31
 (L) Quain Stott (Lee Boy Paving '63 Corvette) 0.512 6.605 224.21
Hahn had a very soft launch with a 1.095 60-foot time, but maybe that was the key to winning because Stott's more aggressive 1.069 was accompanied by lots of tire shake. By the time he pedaled out of it, Hahn was long gone, but he lost lane choice to Moore.
 (W) Alan Pittman (Grave Digger '41Willys) 0.525 7.107 194.04
 (L) Steve Vick (Tucson Cigarettes '68 Camaro) 0.464 8.150 164.86
Pedaling contest, both cars shaking hard and both drivers pedaling, Pittman a little further down the lane with more momentum when he pedaled. Pittman wins and his seven-second run was good enough for lane choice against Jenkins in round two.

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing '01 Corvette) 0.471 6.685 219.78
 (L) Pat Moore (Ed Steffey '57 Bel Air) 0.718 6.482 211.46
2:39 PM It's 84 degrees, 70 percent relative humidity, barometer 29.97 and falling, under partly cloudy skies.

Moore was very late and that allowed Hahn to take the win despite having to pedal it early in the run. Moore closed the gap quickly, then Hahn opened it back up a bit on the top end for a half-car-length win. Hahn's incremental margins: 60ft(0.268), 330ft(0.107), 660ft(0.045), 1,000ft(0.024). MOV: 0.0440 seconds (approximately 14 feet).
 (W) Al Billes ('53 Studebaker) 0.504 6.707 218.23
 (L) Sal Passarelli ('68 Nova) 0.400 11.227 81.64
Both cars shook, but Billes was able to drive through it while Passarelli was all over the lane and had to lift.
 (W) Ed Hoover (Trussel Constr. '63 Corvette) 0.495 6.344 221.67
 (L) Troy Critchley ('53 Corvette) 0.488 19.559 40.03
Critchley did another huge burnout, but when the light turned green, Critchley's car shook and danced while Hoover's went smoothly down the middle of the groove for the win and lane choice against Billes in the semifinals.
 (W) Shannon Jenkins ('68 Camaro) 0.473 6.390 221.29
 (L) Alan Pittman (Grave Digger '41Willys) 0.493 9.035 108.52
The supercharged cars have been shaking hard this round and Pittman's "Grave Digger" was no exception, while Jenkins joined the list of nitrous cars that went smoothly down the groove for an easy win light. Jenkins will have lane choice against Hahn in the semifinals.

Results for Elimination Round 3

LEICESTER, N.Y. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 3 eliminations in Mopar Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 14th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts Empire Nationals:

 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Shannon Jenkins ('68 Camaro) 0.479 6.360 221.51
 (L) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing '01 Corvette) 0.455 6.559 211.66
4:22 PM It's 87 degrees, 67 percent relative humidity, barometer 29.96 and falling under hazy skies.

The weather should favor the nitrous car of Jenkins and it did, despite a good job of tuning Hahn's car to avoid shake. Hahn's 1.087 60-foot time was slower than usual, while Jenkins' 1.049 was right about where he's been all day. It just got worse as they went down the track, Jenkins erasing Hahn's starting line advantage in the first 60 feet and then steadily opening the margin to a couple car lengths.
 (W) Ed Hoover (Trussel Constr. '63 Corvette) 0.487 7.045 196.37
 (L) Al Billes ('53 Studebaker) 0.506 13.275 88.13
Hoover avoided disaster here, his car very squirrely on the launch because Billes' blower car completely lost traction, shaking and turning sideways. Hoover recovered and finished the run to advance to the finals, but will not have lane choice against Jenkins in a final round match between nitrous cars.

 (L) Ed Hoover (Trussel Constr. '63 Corvette) 0.547 6.371 208.91
6:29 PM Jenkins slapped a huge holeshot on Hoover and then opened the gap in the final 300 feet to win handily by about two car lengths in this final round matchup between two nitrous cars.
