Left Lane: Ray Price Runs 6.611/192.10, Now #1
Right Lane: Doug Vancil Runs 12.752/67.70, Now #2
1:05 PM It's 76 degrees, 56 percent relative humidity, barometer 30.09 and
falling, under clear blue skies.
Price was leaned way over to stay off the
centerline, but made a full pass. Vancil lost traction, spun the tire very hard,
and coasted through.
Left Lane: Mark Conner Runs 6.860/206.61, Now #3
Right Lane: Johnny Mancuso Runs 6.631/204.68, Now #2
Two good opening passes, both carrying the front tire well past the middle of
the run.
Left Lane: Tommy Sloan Runs 7.095/184.99, Now #4
Right Lane: Mike Romine No Time, Now #6
Romine's bike lost fire and he did not run. Sloan is new to the IHRA tour
and made a brave run, hanging way off the bike to stay off the centerline.
Left Lane: Joe Scatella Runs 7.628/148.00, Now #6
Right Lane: Steve Stordeur Runs 6.605/211.51, Now #1
Scatella spun the tire hard on the launch and never did get it running
strongly. Stordeur had the front wheel high in the air and the rear tire hazing on
the launch and drove through it with a strong top end run and the first-round pole
position.

7:25 PM It's 80 degrees, 56 percent relative humidity, barometer 30.02 and
steady. The skies are clear but the Sun is low in the sky, behind the
riders.
Sloan is an AHDRA regular, trying the IHRA scene on for size. The
attention here was all on Stordeur, carrying the front wheel way past half track
and into the top spot. Sloan's run looked okay on the short end, but he dropped
off the pace on the top end.

Romine was unable to run in the first round. Here he was leaning way off the
bike to keep it straight for a solid result. Didn't see what Scatella's problem
was, he was right with Romine to 330 feet and then slowed.

Price's bike went to the right and he got a good look at the guard rail,
finally lifting. Nice run by Mancuso, straight and strong, moving right in behind
his team rider in the order.

Vancil was off to a great start with the lowest 60-foot time of the round and
a 168 mph speed at half track, but then the engine started sounding sour and he
could not maintain the pace, slowing. Conner, on the Alamo City H-D bike this
weekend while Jim McClure is on the mend, spun the tire hard on the launch and
threw in the towel fairly early in the run.

Romine's bike tried to turn left and he shut it down.

Scatella skirted the centerline all the way. Vancil made a pretty good run,
much better than his previous efforts, but he coasted the last couple hundred
feet.

and steady. The Sun is low and the track is "tight," the Pro Stock cars showing
very little tire chatter in the round just completed.
Scatella slowed after
a couple hundred feet and coasted through. Mancuso made a very nice looking run,
just a few thousandths slower than his best this weekend.

Sloan blew the engine in his first bike yesterday and went to a backup, so
those two runs from yesterday were wiped out. Here he went about five feet and
stopped, the engine dead. Meanwhile, Vancil was on a rocket ride, right down the
groove and into the top spot.

Conner was off the pace early. Stordeur's lap was almost a duplicate of
Vancil's, but slightly quicker to take over the top spot.

Price isn't getting older, he's getting better. Another picture-perfect run,
right down the groove and into the second spot. Romine smoked the tire and threw
in the towel. We conclude qualifying with the top three tightly bunched in the low
6.40s, so tomorrow could prove interesting.

falling. It's sunny and a bit muggy, with partly cloudy skies.
Sloan has
had plenty of problems this weekend, blowing an engine Friday and switching to a
backup bike, which made just one run, then broke in the final session and again
here, the bike moving a couple feet. Meanwhile, Stordeur made the run of the
weekend (so far), right down the groove for low ET and top speed of the meet.

Romine never got up to speed and Mancuso made his best lap of the weekend,

Price launched and something went wrong, Price looking back to see what was
wrong. Then he got back on the throttle, but could not catch Scatella, whose bike
faltered, but not as badly.

Conner's bike appeared down on power, steadily losing ground to Vancil's

and steady, under a light overcast.
Looks like Stordeur had the better
tuneup against his teammate and team owner, easily pulling away early in the run
with a stout 1.110 60-foot time. Mancuso threw in the towel early, his bike
struggling.

Both bikes faltered on the launch, but Vancil's picked back up again, running

5:44 PM This was a great race, Stordeur pulling off a holeshot and then
holding on to win by a bike length. Stordeur was stronger over the first half of
the run, but Vancil was closing the gap rapidly on the top end, running out of race
track. Stordeur's incremental margins: 60ft(0.029), 330ft(0.066), 660ft(0.074),
1,000ft(0.036). MOV: 0.0277 seconds (approximately 9 feet).
