CORDOVA, Ill. - CORDOVA - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Screamin{ Eagle Nitro
Harley at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 6th annual Amalie Oil Summer
Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order
following run:
Left Lane: Steve Stordeur Runs 8.411/106.36, Now #1
Right Lane: Joe Scatella Runs 23.286/23.73, Now #2
Stordeur with a great launch and then lost the belt around half track and
coasted on through the quarter mile. Scatella with problems right off the starting
line and then had a couple flashes of flame around 330-foot mark.
Left Lane: Ray Price Runs 6.530/216.38, Now #2
Right Lane: Doug Vancil Runs 6.472/217.95, Now #1
This was a great drag race, as Vancil launched with 1.149 second 60-foot time
and blast on through for the number one spot. Price was right behind him and then
has trouble getting it stopped and rode it into the sand. He is okay.
Left Lane: Johnny Mancuso Runs 6.548/186.59, Now #3
Right Lane: Mike Romine Runs 22.019/65.02, Now #5
Romine had trouble right off the starting line. Mancuso with the second quick
60-foot time of the round and then crossed the centerline past the finish line.
Right Lane: Mark Conner Runs 7.411/159.70, Now #4
Conner launched with the front tire about a two feet in the air and bounced it
down hard, but stayed with it.

right off the starting line.

Stordeur got close to the centerline and clicked it off. Vancil tripped the
mph with his rear tire, so he will not get a mph, but took the number one spot back
here.

Romine labored it through the quarter mile. Price flirted with the

Price was real loose and did a great job to save this one around half track. That
was a scary pass.

Vancil needs a 6.415 to back up his 6.35 for a world record, well he had a
great pass. He just blasted into the the 6.20's for the first bike into the 6.20's.
That pass was too quick for his earlier pass to back up, but this pass will back up
his earlier pass.

Scatella with the starting line advantage but then he had problems right off
the starting line. Price got real close to the guardrail, but stayed with it.
(W) Johnny Mancuso (Mancuso H-D '00 Weekend) 0.516 6.402 217.28
(L) Mark Conner (Jim McClure Racing '01 Puppet) 0.437 8.553 103.30
Conner with the light, but had problems like he has had all weekend. Mancuso
with a great looking pass straight down the lane.

Stordeur carried the front wheel out to about the 330-foot mark and then
blasted on through to the next round. He will face teammate and will have his lane
choice over Mancuso.

was unopposed
Vancil with another picture perfect pass to back up his 6.278 for a new world
record and he will have lane choice over Price.

Vancil with the light and then bounced the front tire a couple times. He got
out of the groove and finally had to click it off. Price with straight pass here to
move into his third straight final of the year.

(L) Steve Stordeur (Mancuso Racing '01 Weekend) 0.489 13.447 81.32
Stordeur with the light, but then had problems right away and Mancuso marches
on into the final and will give up lane choice to Price.
