Results for Qualifying 1
DINWIDDIE, Va. - RICHMOND - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Mopar Parts Pro
Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 2nd annual AC Delco Nationals
presented by Chevrolet listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and
position in order following run:
Left Lane: Mike Janis Runs 13.742/76.23, Now #2
Right Lane: Roy Wasko Runs 6.897/168.83, Now #1
1:56 PM 96 degrees, 37 percent humidity, barometer 29.99 and falling. In
other words, it's more like mid-summer that Spring. Janis shook hard and shut it
down. Wasko made a full pass, nipping a few pistons in the lights.
Left Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 14.881/81.28, Now #4
Right Lane: Harold Martin Runs 6.505/214.28, Now #1
Martin's team worked overtime to rebuild the ACDelco Pontiac and it's a
beauty in its red, white, and blue livery. Paired with the awesome "Gravedigger"
it's a photo op. Nice pass for Martin, immediate tire spin for Pittman, the blower
cars having problems getting the extra hundred pounds off the starting line. By
contrast, Martin had a relatively smooth 1.052 short time.
Left Lane: Tommy Gray No Time, Now #6
Right Lane: Tim McAmis Runs 6.405/221.23, Now #1
Gray is the third blower car in a row to rip the tires loose instantly in the
left lane, rolling to a stop around 300 feet down the lane. McAmis made a nice
launch, 1.058 for the first 60 feet, and went right down the groove.
Left Lane: Paul Athey Runs 6.814/213.43, Now #3
Right Lane: Marc Hayes Runs 17.658/44.76, Now #7
Athey got off the launch pad with a 1.066 60-foot time and got down the
track. Hayes shook and slowed.
Left Lane: Mark Hemling Runs 6.456/218.69, Now #2
Right Lane: Kasey Janzen Runs 6.477/217.98, Now #3
Finally a side-by-side race, two nitrous cars right down the groove.
Left Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 12.318/79.13, Now #8
Right Lane: Mike Lockwood Runs 8.126/124.65, Now #7
Hahn spun the tires hard. Lockwood headed for the wall. They will be back
later today for another try.
Left Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 7.452/201.16, Now #8
Right Lane: Al Billes Runs 6.422/222.11, Now #2
Billes is the first blower car to come up in the right lane. He goes right
down the middle of the groove on a smooth pass. Patterson had problems early in
the run.
Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 15.772/57.39, Now #14
Right Lane: Chip King Runs 6.349/213.40, Now #1
King's car was already 100 pounds heavy before the recent rules change, so he
was not affected. He went right down the middle of the lane and right to the top
of the heap on a smooth run. Stott lost traction immediately.
Left Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 6.388/220.84, Now #2
Right Lane: Tori Cagle Runs 11.276/77.09, Now #12
Hoover makes a nice pass with a big speed, showing that the nitrous cars can
run with the blower cars in this heat. Cagle's car faltered on the launch and he
idled through.
Left Lane: Steve Cossis Runs 10.141/87.51, Now #13
Right Lane: Terry Housley Runs 9.353/95.58, Now #12
Cossis' blower car was all over the lane, threatening to cross the
centerline. Housley slowed, the reason not evident.
Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 6.434/218.72, Now #5
Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.504/220.40, Now #8
Nice pass for Castellana, smooth and straight. Stott fought to keep his car
going straight for the first half of the run, scrubbing off some elapsed time.
Left Lane: Marcello Mastroianni Runs 22.299/34.75, Now #23
Right Lane: Scott Ray Runs 7.628/121.74, Now #13
Mastroianni's car lurched and bounced for 100 feet or so, then he coasted
through. Didn't see what happened to Ray, but he was off the pace.
Left Lane: Troy Critchley No Time, Now #26
Right Lane: Keith Baker Runs 6.569/213.20, Now #10
Critchley's car slowed and stopped at half track. Just an "Okay" first pass
for Baker with no exciting moments.
Left Lane: Ed Burnley Jr Runs 6.793/211.53, Now #11
Right Lane: John Russo Runs 13.327/63.07, Now #21
Russo had some exciting moments, his car spinning the tries on the launch,
then getting up on two wheels when he pedaled it. Burnley's car was slow off the
line, then picked the pace up for the second half of the run.
Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.439/219.36, Now #6
Right Lane: Bob Rieger Runs 13.708/65.85, Now #23
Rieger duplicated the tire spin and two-wheel dance Russo just demonstrated
in that lane. Nice run for Smith, the Viper right down the groove.
Left Lane: Ronnie Hood Runs 6.411/219.36, Now #4
Right Lane: Steve Vick Runs 6.543/216.93, Now #12
Nice opening pass by Hood, clean and straight. Vick's was also clean and
straight, just not as quick.
Left Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 6.588/215.65, Now #14
Right Lane: Rick Stivers Runs 6.727/207.91, Now #15
Ashley's car was slow off the line, with a 1.133 60-foot time, then really
picked the pace up.
Left Lane: Ed Wasserbeck Runs 6.650/190.38, Now #15
Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 11.841/75.99, Now #26
Jenkin's car headed for the wall and he lifted. Wasserbeck's Bel Air is an
interesting car, but off the pace.
Left Lane: Tommy Mauney Runs 6.543/220.51, Now #12
Nice, soft pass by Mauney to get a lap in the books.
Right Lane: Jason Brooks Runs 21.567/34.25, Now #35
Brooks spun the tires hard and coasted through to close the session

No Prior Run
Right Lane: Steve Cossis Runs 6.418/215.93, Now #11
No Prior Run

Left Lane: Tori Cagle No Time, Now #36
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.469/217.00, Now #20

DINWIDDIE, Va. - RICHMOND - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Mopar Parts Pro
Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 2nd annual AC Delco Nationals
presented by Chevrolet listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this

Right Lane: Ed Wasserbeck Runs 13.577/97.16, Now #28
Best prior run: 6.650/190.38, Was #28
1:00 PM The bump as this session opens is Steve Cossis' 6.418. It's 84
degrees, 54 percent humidity, barometer 29.87 and steady, with overcast skies.
WEasserbeck had severe shake and pulled the plug. Brooks made a full pass, off the
pace a bit.
Left Lane: Tori Cagle Runs 10.323/109.69, Now #33
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.293/225.48, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.398/222.80, Was #14
Cagle shook and slowed. Nice pass by Janis, improving a full tenth of a
second from last night's run.
Left Lane: Chip King Runs 6.316/208.59, Now #3
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 6.429/220.48, Now #14
Best prior run: 0.000/222.80, Was #98

field.
Left Lane: John Russo No Time, Now #38
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Tommy Gray Runs 6.406/219.79, Now #15
No Prior Run
The good news is that Russo's car went straight. The bad news is that he
left before the tree was activated. Gray waited to settle down after Russo's
premature launch, then made a good ruin to get in, but near the bump spot. That
bumped Cossis, putting Ronnie Hood on the bump at 6.411.
Left Lane: Marc Hayes Runs 6.661/212.83, Now #30
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Mark Hemling Runs 7.857/132.06, Now #22

Right Lane: Paul Athey Runs 6.563/218.09, Now #26
Best prior run: 6.814/213.43, Was #32
Severe shake for Stott. Athey launched, the car went right, he corrected,
the car got up on two wheels, and he never lifted!
Left Lane: Terry Housley Runs 6.468/215.86, Now #19
Best prior run: 6.437/215.51, Was #19
Right Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 6.345/221.60, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.319/221.16, Was #5
Two good looking runs, Housley just down on power a bit and falling back as
the pair went down the track.
Left Lane: Scott Ray Runs 6.709/190.38, Now #32
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.893/155.54, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.322/220.98, Was #7
Ray's car was spitting smoke and flames and so was Smith's Viper, both cars
apparently with sick powerplants.
Left Lane: Mike Lockwood Runs 6.385/221.02, Now #13
Best prior run: 8.126/124.65, Was #35
Right Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.406/221.63, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.488/216.76, Was #25
Lockwood gets in with a nice run in his nitrous car, and so does Stott. That
bumps Hood and Gray, Mitch Stott on the bubble at 6.406.
Left Lane: Steve Vick Runs 6.339/221.56, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.354/221.23, Was #9
Right Lane: Tommy Mauney Runs 6.416/222.44, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.334/223.06, Was #8
Two more clean runs, both cars staying where they were on the ladder.
Left Lane: Tim McAmis Runs 6.343/221.34, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.318/222.18, Was #4
Right Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 8.566/109.44, Now #22
Best prior run: 6.445/219.01, Was #22
Patterson's car fishtailed and danced about 200 feet out. Good pass by
McAmis, smooth and straight.
Left Lane: Kasey Janzen Runs 6.502/212.66, Now #26
Best prior run: 6.477/217.98, Was #26
Right Lane: Fred Hahn Runs 6.259/221.52, Now #1
Best prior run: 6.469/217.00, Was #25
"Outhouse to penthouse." Hahn's Corvette was on a rope, no wiggles, no
waggles. Janzen's run looked okay to half track, then the car started trailing a
bit of smoke, which turned into lots of white smoke at the finish line.
Left Lane: Harold Martin Runs 6.379/220.30, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.645/205.38, Was #30
Right Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 6.713/221.52, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.389/218.69, Was #15
Now the bump was Pittman's 6.396. Martin managed to beat that on a
good-looking run, bumping "Gravdigger" Pittman and pushing Critchley down to the
bump spot. Critchley spun the tires hard on the launch and failed to improve.
Left Lane: Roy Wasko Runs 7.175/147.47, Now #35
Best prior run: 6.897/168.83, Was #35
Right Lane: Steve Cossis Runs 6.455/214.89, Now #21

Results for Qualifying 4
DINWIDDIE, Va. - RICHMOND - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Mopar Parts Pro
Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 2nd annual ACDelco Nationals
presented by Chevrolet listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this
round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position
in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Ed Burnley Jr Runs 10.536/81.45, Now #22
Best prior run: 6.424/219.51, Was #22
Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.331/218.27, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.314/220.87, Was #4
6:58 PM Burnley's car was all over the lane on the launch. Nice pass for
Jenkins, but no improvement.
Left Lane: Mike Castellana Runs 17.055/44.62, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.359/218.37, Was #13
Right Lane: Keith Baker Runs 6.506/214.31, Now #28
Best prior run: 6.569/213.20, Was #29
Castellana's car dove toward the wall on the launch and he lifted. Baker
picked up more than half a second, but still came up short.
Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.605/220.15, Now #19
Best prior run: 6.406/221.63, Was #19
Right Lane: Bob Rieger No Time, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.288/222.77, Was #2
Rieger's throttle hung on the burnout and he drove out the other end to clear
the track. Stott spun the tires, shook, pedaled, and then gave it up.
Left Lane: Ronnie Hood Runs 6.360/206.35, Now #11
Best prior run: 6.346/221.78, Was #11
Right Lane: Quain Stott Runs 6.404/220.26, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.379/221.45, Was #14
Two unspectacular runs, possibly race day setups?
Left Lane: Marcello Mastroianni
Runs 6.645/212.93, Now #31
Best prior run: 9.173/117.70, Was #35
Right Lane: Al Billes Runs 6.347/221.67, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.355/221.82, Was #12
Mastroianni made a full pass this time out, off the pace, but a real
improvement. Meanwhile, Billes went right down the groove and picked up a
hundredth, staying twelfth.
Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.322/221.82, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.322/220.98, Was #8
Right Lane: Scott Ray Runs 6.960/152.95, Now #36
No Prior Run
Smith matches his best elapsed time and improves the speed. Ray was off the
pace from the start, then started eating engine parts at half track, with sparks,
flames, and lots of smoke on the top end.
Left Lane: Ed Wasserbeck Runs 6.740/199.85, Now #32
Best prior run: 6.650/190.38, Was #32
Right Lane: Jason Brooks Runs 6.568/211.69, Now #30
Best prior run: 6.592/211.63, Was #30
Two complete runs, not much to say about either.
Left Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 6.330/221.38, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.389/218.69, Was #17
Right Lane: Tim McAmis Runs 6.336/219.72, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.318/222.18, Was #6
Critchley bumps Mike Lockwood, putting Harold Martin on the bubble at 6.379.
There were sparks from the left front of Critchley's car at the finish line,
possibly a broken header dragging on the track.
Left Lane: Alan Pittman Runs 6.535/214.01, Now #18
Best prior run: 6.396/217.70, Was #18
Right Lane: John Russo Runs 12.098/87.72, Now #37
No Prior Run
Russo's car shook and sashayed off the starting line, so he shut it off.
"Grave Digger" was slow off the line, a 1.106 60-foot time marking his demise.
Left Lane: Ed Hoover Runs 9.155/104.19, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.319/221.16, Was #7
Right Lane: Mike Lockwood Runs 6.385/221.31, Now #17
Best prior run: 6.385/221.02, Was #17
Hoover's car was all over the place, so he lifted. Lockwood matched his
prior best elapsed time and improved his speed, but that left him outside the field
by 0.006 seconds.
Left Lane: Steve Cossis Runs 6.447/215.48, Now #21
Best prior run: 6.418/215.93, Was #21
Right Lane: Terry Housley Runs 9.927/90.54, Now #23
Best prior run: 6.437/215.51, Was #23
Nope. Cossis made a full pass, but failed to improve. Housley shook and
gave it up early.
Left Lane: Tommy Mauney Runs 6.419/221.63, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.334/223.06, Was #10
Right Lane: Chip King Runs 6.489/218.55, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.316/208.59, Was #5
Nope, no help here either, neither driver able to come close to their best
earlier runs.
Left Lane: Tommy Gray Runs 6.376/218.44, Now #15
Best prior run: 6.406/219.79, Was #20
Right Lane: Steve Vick Runs 6.333/221.09, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.339/221.56, Was #11
Gray's "Undertaker" comes complete with hooded and robed attendants carrying
scythes. Maybe that's the key because he got in nicely, bumping Martin in the race
sponsor's car. Vick only picked up 0.006 seconds, but that was enough to move up
one spot.
Left Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 6.295/224.70, Now #4
Best prior run: 6.445/219.01, Was #24
Right Lane: Marc Hayes Runs 6.680/210.37, Now #33
Best prior run: 6.661/212.83, Was #33
Quain Stott was on the bump at 6.379. Patterson took care of that little
detail, bumping Stott and moving way up near the top of the field.
Left Lane: Mark Hemling No Time, Now #26
Best prior run: 6.456/218.69, Was #26
Right Lane: Tori Cagle Runs 11.676/77.02, Now #37
No Prior Run
Hemling was pushed to the side without making a run. Cagle launched, shook,
and shut off.
Left Lane: Mike Janis Runs 6.278/226.39, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.293/225.48, Was #3
Right Lane: Harold Martin Runs 6.311/221.74, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.379/220.30, Was #18
The bump was Gray's 6.376. Martin, coming back from a disastrous fire at
Rockingham in style, made a career-quickest run to get back in and well into the
top half of the field at that. Meanwhile Janis edged up the ladder another spot on
a very nice run.
Left Lane: Paul Athey Runs 6.417/221.20, Now #22
Best prior run: 6.563/218.09, Was #29
Right Lane: Roy Wasko Runs 6.646/191.87, Now #32
Best prior run: 6.897/168.83, Was #35
Athey was all over the lane, on two wheels at times, and stayed with it.
Wasko's car trailed lots of sparks at the finish line.
Left Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 6.340/219.44, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.454/216.31, Was #26
Last car and Ashley does it in style, bumping Mike Castellana and putting Al
Billes on the now-safe bump spot. Safe, but he will run Fred Hahn in the first
round on Sunday.

Results for Elimination Round 1
DINWIDDIE, Va. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Mopar
Parts Pro Modified at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 2nd annual ACDelco
Nationals presented by Chevrolet:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Steve Vick ('68 Camaro) 0.481 6.410 220.87
(L) Troy Critchley ('53 Corvette) 0.589 6.499 217.21
3:38 PM - Air temperature was 95 degrees at 39 percent humidity. Barometric
pressure is 29.70 and steady. In time trials earlier today, Critchley got loose and
hit the wall. In that crash, his right rear wheel center broke away from the rest
of the wheel and the tire and rim came off the car. His team got the car back
together and he made round one. This time, he came off the starting line slow and
was not very aggressive for the entire run. Vick had a much better start and kept
it up the whole way for the win.
(W) Ed Hoover (Trussel Constr. '63 Corvette) 0.442 6.432 219.79
(L) Ronnie Hood (Roy Hill School '63 Corvette) 0.469 6.411 220.55
This was a close race for the quarter mile with Hoover never being more than
17 thousandths ahead of hood.
Hoover margins: 60ft(0.005), 330ft(0.017), 660ft(0.013), 1,000ft(0.009).
MOV: 0.0064 seconds (approximately 2 feet).
(W) Mike Janis (Jan-Cen Engines '63 Corvette) 0.466 6.408 221.31
(L) Alan Pittman (Grave Digger '41Willys) 0.440 11.345 72.90
Pitman came off the starting line first and just spun the tires for the first
60 feet, so he shut it down. Janis will get lane choice over Hoover in round
two.
(W) Al Billes ('53 Studebaker) 0.466 6.617 215.37
(L) Chip King ('01 Avenger) 0.609 8.791 101.77
King's engine started smoking at 600 feet. Billes ran strong for the
win.
(W) Thomas Patterson (Texas Head Hunter '63 Corv0.506 6.705 214.11
(L) Mike Lockwood ('66 Corvette) 0.460 7.341 212.96
Both drivers shook it the whole way down the track but Patterson was better
with the pedal to get the win. Patterson gave up lane choice to Al Billes in the
next round.
(W) Fred Hahn (Summit Racing '01 Corvette) 0.504 6.423 223.43
(L) Mitch Stott (Radiac Abrasives '63 Corvette) 0.000(R) (Broke)
As soon as Stott rolled out of the water, he started leaking fluid from his
car. He just shut it down and was pushed back. Hahn ran solo but gave up lane
choice to Vick in the round two.
(W) Shannon Jenkins ('68 Camaro) 0.470 6.385 219.47
(L) Mike Castellana (Western Beef '41 Willys) 0.542 9.396 97.33
Castellana came off the starting line with the wheels up and he was all over
the lane. He had similar problems earlier today in time trials. Jenkins also had a
run similar to his time trials and that gave him the win.
(W) Harold Martin (AC Delco '02 Grand Am) 0.523 6.617 212.59
(L) Quain Stott (Lee Boy Paving '63 Corvette) 0.510 13.539 62.74
Stott shook the tires at 60 feet and shut it down. Martin gave up lane choice
to Jenkins.
