Left Lane: Dan Roman Runs 10.481/96.96, Now #7
Right Lane: Philip Hooper No Time, Now #6

the wall. Atchison made a solid, but uneventful run.
Left Lane: Monty Todd No Time, Now #18
Right Lane: Bobby Martindale No Time, Now #16
Todd came close to hitting the wall and had to back off. Martindale
came off the line and lost all power, so neither driver got a time.
Right Lane: Tony Bogolo Runs 7.443/137.55, Now #12
With a lot of poor runs coming up before him in the first qualifying
session, Bogolo made a soft and easy run to put himself into the field.

No Prior Run
Right Lane: Laurie Cannister Runs 8.896/86.54, Now #13
Best prior run: 12.641/55.82, Was #16
As they entered the second round of qualifying, Vouros was not in the field
and Cannister was on the bubble. Vouros shook the tires hard off the line and had
to back off. Cannister drifted and had to get off the throttle half way down the
track.
Left Lane: Terry McMillen No Time, Now #17
Best prior run: 11.151/74.21, Was #16
Right Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 5.923/235.35, Now #1
No Prior Run
McMillen didn't answer the call. Thomas took advantage of the cooler air with
a great run. In the process, Thomas bumped McMillen out of the field.
Left Lane: Tony Bogolo Runs 6.429/217.14, Now #11
Best prior run: 7.443/137.55, Was #13
Right Lane: Jimmy Rector Runs 5.990/235.23, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.035/234.90, Was #3
Bogolo was slow coming off the line but picked up enough to move up the
ladder. Rector made a strong run to move into the second position. With the cool
air and others waiting to run, we'll have to see if he can hold that position.
Left Lane: Philip Hooper Runs 6.200/227.04, Now #10
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Dale Brand Runs 5.988/235.56, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.534/169.53, Was #12
Hooper was asleep at the light but that doesn't matter in qualifying and his
run was good enough to get him into the field. Brand had a strong run, despite
having to get of the throttle.
Left Lane: Bobby Martindale Runs 8.079/111.97, Now #15
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 6.006/234.04, Now #5
Best prior run: 6.174/197.80, Was #9
Martindale ran strongly, even as Martindale was about to cross the center
line at 330 feet. Martindale managed to stay in his lane but had to back off the
throttle to do so.
Left Lane: Terry Munroe Runs 5.948/222.73, Now #2
Best prior run: 6.084/227.31, Was #9
Right Lane: Monty Todd Runs 6.031/232.91, Now #7
No Prior Run
The right lane had been the better lane until now, but that didn't matter to
Munroe as he used the left lane to move up in the field. Todd made a strong run and
got solidly into the field.
Left Lane: Ronnie Midyette Runs 6.141/226.96, Now #9
Best prior run: 6.075/230.88, Was #9
Right Lane: Dave Ray Runs 7.304/134.90, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.278/221.89, Was #12
Ray had problems and had to back off. Midyette just didn't have the power he
needed to move up in the field.
Left Lane: Mike Comella Runs 5.996/231.32, Now #6
Best prior run: 9.128/94.59, Was #18
Right Lane: Rob Atchison Runs 6.019/227.61, Now #8
Best prior run: 6.073/228.50, Was #8
Comella came into the round on the outside looking in. He shook the tires a
bit at the start but managed to get it under control to put himself in the top half
of the field. Atchison stayed in the same position he was in when the round
started.
Left Lane: Bunny Burkett Runs 5.961/239.02, Now #3
Best prior run: 6.307/231.52, Was #14
Right Lane: Dan Roman Runs 13.775/59.56, Now #19
Best prior run: 10.481/96.96, Was #19
Roman was in the field but got bumped out and now needs a 6.79 to get back
in. He didn't make it as he shut down at 330 feet. Burkett ran well to move into
the number three spot.
Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 6.035/232.63, Now #11
Best prior run: 6.079/230.17, Was #12
Lee put himself in better shape for the next two rounds of qualifying with a
solid run.

Results for Qualifying 3
DINWIDDIE, Va. - RICHMOND - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the
Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 2nd annual AC Delco Nationals presented by
Chevrolet listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in
order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to
run:
Left Lane: William Fulford Runs 6.351/218.94, Now #15
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Jimmy Rector Runs 5.889/237.42, Now #1
Best prior run: 5.990/235.23, Was #5
Fulford came off the line slowly and didn't gain time the rest of the way.
The track conditions are getting better as the temperatures dropped and Rector took
advantage to set the low ET of the weekend. Now, we have to see how long it holds
up.
Left Lane: Philip Hooper Runs 6.352/223.84, Now #13
Best prior run: 6.200/227.04, Was #13
Right Lane: Dave Ray Runs 6.249/221.02, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.278/221.89, Was #14
Hooper was slow coming off the light. Neither driver was particularly quick
and neither improved their qualifying position.
Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 5.991/227.84, Now #8
Best prior run: 11.151/74.21, Was #19
Right Lane: Monty Todd Runs 5.988/233.72, Now #6
Best prior run: 6.031/232.91, Was #10
McMillen made a good run that put him in the middle of the field, but he
smoked the engine at the finish line. In the right lane, Todd also made a good run
and moved himself up the ladder.
Left Lane: Tony Bogolo Runs 6.285/220.94, Now #16
Best prior run: 6.429/217.14, Was #17
Right Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 6.589/231.28, Now #10
Best prior run: 6.006/234.04, Was #10
Tigges shook the tires coming off the line. Bogolo shook a bit, but salvaged
the run enough to make the field, for now.
Left Lane: John Vouros Runs 6.033/229.82, Now #12
Best prior run: 14.902/67.79, Was #20
Right Lane: Mark Thomas Runs 8.316/112.90, Now #2
Best prior run: 5.923/235.35, Was #2
Vouros was unspectacular but ran well enough to get himself in the field.
Thomas, who was in the number two spot, shut down early.
Left Lane: Ronnie Midyette Runs 6.127/226.66, Now #15
Best prior run: 6.075/230.88, Was #14
Right Lane: Laurie Cannister Runs 5.983/235.72, Now #5
Best prior run: 8.896/86.54, Was #19
Cannister made the field briefly yesterday, but was quickly bumped out. She
got the run she needed this afternoon and moved into the top half of the field.
Midyette's run was okay but kept him at the end of the field.
Left Lane: Mike Comella Runs 13.282/69.53, Now #10
Best prior run: 5.996/231.32, Was #10
Right Lane: Dale Brand Runs 5.848/237.63, Now #1
Best prior run: 5.988/235.56, Was #6
Comella shook hard at the line and shut down right away. In the right lane,
Brand made a great run to get the lowest ET of the weekend so far.
Left Lane: Bobby Martindale Runs 6.839/208.71, Now #20
No Prior Run
Right Lane: Rob Atchison Runs 6.044/228.34, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.019/227.61, Was #12
Martindale shook the tires off the line and had to back off. That appears to
be a common problem in the left lane today. So, Martindale will have one more
chance tonight to make the field. Atchison made a good run but not enough to get
into the top half of the order.
Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 6.115/230.37, Now #14
Best prior run: 6.035/232.63, Was #14
Right Lane: Dan Roman Runs 6.483/211.93, Now #20
Best prior run: 10.481/96.96, Was #21
Lee's first run with a new sponsor was not enough to move him up in the
field. Roman got loose halfway down the track and had to back off.

Results for Qualifying 4
DINWIDDIE, Va. - RICHMOND - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at
the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 2nd annual ACDelco Nationals presented by
Chevrolet listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in
order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to
run:
Left Lane: Fred Tigges Runs 14.323/53.80, Now #11
Best prior run: 6.006/234.04, Was #11
Right Lane: Tony Bogolo Runs 6.319/228.00, Now #18
Best prior run: 6.285/220.94, Was #18
At the start of the final round of Funny Car qualifying, the bump time to
make the field is 6.200 seconds, with Philip Hooper sitting on the bubble. Tigges
is already in the field but Bogolo still needs to make the field. Tigges shook hard
leaving the line and veered sharply to the right, so he lifted. Bogolo tried but
couldn't get it done.
Left Lane: Dale Brand Runs 5.828/237.71, Now #1
Best prior run: 5.848/237.63, Was #1
Right Lane: Mike Comella Runs 5.965/233.52, Now #6
Best prior run: 5.996/231.32, Was #10
Dale Brand set the quickest ET of the of the weekend this afternoon in round
three of qualifying. It's now about 10 degrees cooler and that let him go even
faster by two hundredths of a second. Comella made a good run in the right lane to
move up four spots in the qualifying order.
Left Lane: Laurie Cannister Runs 5.987/235.31, Now #7
Best prior run: 5.983/235.72, Was #7
Right Lane: Bobby Martindale Runs 6.348/186.25, Now #19
No Prior Run
Martindale gave it one more shot to make the field but it wasn't good enough
to make the field. His engine popped during the burnout and that could have made
the difference. Cannister made a good run and now sits in the top half of the
field.
Left Lane: Rob Atchison Runs 6.607/146.46, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.019/227.61, Was #12
Right Lane: Terry Munroe Runs 6.023/233.16, Now #4
Best prior run: 5.948/222.73, Was #4
Atchison has the only Chevy powered car in the field. The car launched its
burst panel halfway down the track, so Atchison has to stay with his earlier time.
Monroe did not improve his position.
Left Lane: Dan Roman Runs 6.257/227.73, Now #18
Best prior run: 6.483/211.93, Was #21
Right Lane: Ronnie Midyette Runs 6.088/221.92, Now #15
Best prior run: 6.075/230.88, Was #15
Roman tried with a good run but he wasn't quick enough. He'll go home.
Midyette could not improve his round three time.
Left Lane: Larry Dobbs No Time, Now #9
Best prior run: 5.990/231.48, Was #9
Right Lane: Philip Hooper Runs 6.012/230.92, Now #12
Best prior run: 6.200/227.04, Was #16
Dobbs did not appear at the staging lanes. Hooper was on the bubble with a
6.20, so he went out and improved his time to get more solidly in the field.
Right Lane: John Vouros Runs 5.965/229.70, Now #7
Best prior run: 6.033/229.82, Was #14
Vouros wanted to move up with a good run and he got what he wanted.
Right Lane: William Fulford Runs 6.609/208.07, Now #21
Best prior run: 6.351/218.94, Was #21
Fulford is taking his last chance to make the field. The bump time is 6.075
seconds and Fulford's best this weekend is 6.351 seconds, so he has a lot of time
to make up. His car didn't sound good the whole way down the quarter mile and
Midyette will be going home early.
Right Lane: Bunny Burkett Runs 6.068/239.06, Now #5
Best prior run: 5.961/239.02, Was #5
Burkett had another good run but did not improve her best time from last
night. She'll stay in the fifth qualifying position.

Results for Elimination Round 1
DINWIDDIE, Va. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 1 eliminations in Funny
Car at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 2nd annual ACDelco Nationals presented
by Chevrolet:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Bunny Burkett (Holbrook Performance Avenger)0.702 6.091 23.46
(L) Rob Atchison (PrideFC Firebird) 0.000(R) (Broke)
2:16 PM Atchison was a no-show here after leaving before the tree was
activated in the earlier time trial today. Burkett, who has a helicopter waiting
to fly her to Budd's Creek for her second race in the same day, made a nice run,
hoping for lane choice.
(W) Mike Comella (Avenger) 0.465 6.042 232.55
(L) Philip Hooper (Camaro) 0.644 6.104 229.04
Good run by Comella, almost as quick as his earlier time trial today.
Hooper sat out the time trials and was late here, the outcome never in doubt.
Comella faces Burkett in round two and will have lane choice.
(W) Mark Thomas (Ethanol Performs Avenger) 0.498 5.960 235.80
(L) Paul Lee (Digital2100.com Corvette) 0.370(R) 9.025 105.50
Lee forced Thomas to stage first, then took a shot at the tree, then shook
hard, the car dancing on the big rear slicks. Meanwhile, Thomas went right down
the groove on a good-looking run, almost matching his run during the earlier time
trial session today.
(W) Jimmy Rector (Holbrook Performance Camaro) 0.479 5.936 235.56
(L) Ronnie Midyette (K&W Racing Camaro) 0.499 6.109 225.15
Midyette did his job, but the 2002 Rector reaper continues to mow down
opponents, Rector right on time and quickest of the round so far. The track
temperature is around 130 degrees, with some puffy cumulus clouds giving the crew
chiefs a bit of a break right now.
(W) Fred Tigges (Tigges Racing Camaro) 0.455 5.915 237.17
(L) John Vouros (CompetitionPlus.com Firebird) 0.603 5.949 231.08
Vouros' car sports a very nice looking new paint job this weekend, but "good
looking" doesn't win drag races, Tigges nailing Vouros to the tree and then running
away from him with low ET of the round. But the win may have cost him, lots of
white smoke in the lights signaling possible engine damage. Tigges faces Thomas
next round and will have lane choice.
(W) Laurie Cannister (Girl Power Camaro) 0.477 5.932 238.72
(L) Terry McMillen (Amalie Oil Avenger) 0.466 6.108 232.11
McMillen had a small reaction time advantage, but Cannister made that up in
the first 60 feet and then ran away from McMillen. Cannister meets Rector in round
two and will have lane choice in what promises to be a very good drag race.
(W) Monty Todd (Camaro) 0.492 6.460 225.71
(L) Larry Dobbs (Corvette) 0.333(R) 6.143 214.76
Dobbs was way early and he gave it away, Todd shaking hard on the launch,
forcing him to backpedal to get out of the gyrations.
(W) Dale Brand (Co-Line Welding Firebird) 0.481 5.965 234.74
(L) Bobby Martindale (Daytona) 0.496 12.007 66.05
Last pair, Martindale, originally the third alternate, coming back to take on
the top qualifier. But there was no Cinderella ending here, Martindale shaking
hard on the launch while Brand launched smoothly with a soft setup, cleanly down
the middle of the groove to advance, earning lane choice against Todd in round
two.

Results for Elimination Round 2
DINWIDDIE, Va. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Funny
Car at the Hooters IHRA Drag Racing Series, 2nd annual ACDelco Nationals presented
by Chevrolet:
W/L Driver RT ET Speed
(W) Jimmy Rector (Holbrook Performance Camaro) 0.504 5.926 235.35
(L) Laurie Cannister (Girl Power Camaro) 0.462 6.014 237.05
Cannister had a huge holeshot, but couldn't match her earlier run, very slow
over the first 60 feet (a 1.012). Rector made up the difference by the 60-foot
marker and then drove away for a half-car-length win.
(W) Mark Thomas (Ethanol Performs Avenger) 0.610 5.942 236.09
(L) Fred Tigges (Tigges Racing Camaro) 0.000(R) (Broke)
Tigges was unable to repair his car in time for this round, so Thomas got a
freebie. However, Thomas wasn't quite quick enough to earn lane choice against
Rector in the semifinals.
(W) Mike Comella (Avenger) 0.483 6.063 232.91
(L) Bunny Burkett (Holbrook Performance Avenger)0.000(R) (Broke)
Bunny left for Budd's Creek after round one, so Comella got a solo run to
advance to the semifinals. Comella made a nice, smooth, conservative run.
(W) Dale Brand (Co-Line Welding Firebird) 0.451 5.911 235.15
(L) Monty Todd (Camaro) 0.379(R) 20.581 45.19
Todd was too eager and then shook very hard, while Brand cruised right down
the groove with the quickest run of the round, earning lane choice against Comella
in the semifinals.

(W) Jimmy Rector (Holbrook Performance Camaro) 0.461 5.959 233.88
(L) Mark Thomas (Ethanol Performs Avenger) 0.539 6.021 225.82
6:04 PM Rector just plain undressed Thomas on the starting line. By the
time Thomas got under way, Rector was almost past the tree. Thomas gave it a game
try, but Rector had him covered at both ends of the track and won by
almost 50 feet.
(W) Dale Brand (Co-Line Welding Firebird) 0.460 5.944 232.07
(L) Mike Comella (Avenger) 0.465 6.030 231.99
Two great lights here, but Brand had the performance edge after the 60-foot
marker and won by more than a car length, quick enough to also earn lane choice
against Rector in the final round.
